Kanye West finds his bid to rock this year’s Glastonbury  rattled by critics whose numbers continue to swell this week.

Who, what, were and why?

Bad news below…

NME shares:

Over 100,000 people have signed an online petition launched to prevent Kanye West from headlining this year’s Glastonbury Festival.

The Change.org petition was set up after the announcement that West will headline the Saturday night of this year’s festival. At the time of writing 120,440 people have backed the campaign.

The original petition read: “Kanye West is an insult to music fans all over the world. We spend hundreds of pounds to attend glasto, and by doing so, expect a certain level of entertainment. Kanye has been very outspoken on his views on music….he should listen to his own advice and pass his headline slot on to someone deserving! Lets prevent this musical injustice now!”

Speaking exclusively to NME, the man behind the petition Neil Lonsdale, said: “Glastonbury needs upbeat major artists. Glastonbury is an institution. It is expected that it has the biggest names. The biggest performers. Kanye does not represent that.”

He added: “I fought the temptation to scream and instead opted to hurl my iPhone across the room. Two years ago we had The Rolling Stones playing the Saturday night, and this year we get Kanye West? It’s an outrage!”

Lonsdale also revealed that he’s never been to Glastonbury before.

Festival organiser Emily Eavis has since reacted to the petition, saying that it represents the “dark underbelly of the web.”

“Who are those people silently shouting in disgust, throwing out threats from behind their screens? It certainly isn’t pleasant to be on the receiving end of that. I can’t even imagine how it makes Kanye feel,” she wrote.

Eavis explained that only four more requests for ticket refunds were made than the previous week following the announcement earlier this week that West would headline the event in June.

Typical! I see thiese petitions arise again when its a black performer Liam and Noel Gallagher are 2 of the rudest and arrogant people in Pop music but no one ever complained when they headlined, most of the rock acts are all cocky and rude fuckers as its all part of there image, yet when its a black guy, lets get petition out! I don’t care what people think of Kanye as a person, his a great artist who has made some great albums (not all lol) and there is no denying he is a heavyweight in the music industry and puts on some incredible shows! if a white rock artist like Jarvis Cocker goes and ruins Michael jacksons performance he is celebrated cos he mocked a black guy, but when Kanye the big black man does it to a little white girl or has an opinion suddenly he is the devil nd lets ban him from performing at an event he deserves to be at! it makes me sick!

Lol you just made me regret my last comment. I have to admit that you do have a point.

    • Taylor swifts number 1 fan!! March 22, 2015

It wasn’t that he had a different opinion on the giving of taylor swifts award, it was that he ruined her moment. That’s the difference.
also on this, I think some people have a set idea about what Glastonbury should be, many think it should remain guitar music based, after all that’s how it’s become what it is now. That’s it’s core audience! I’ve no issue with rappers or anyone performing, but everyone has their own opinion on the matter.

    Some interesting points.

S******, didn’t your Queen just say that Kanye is the Black version of her? Why are you throwing subtle shots?

      • S****** Blonde March 22, 2015

Do i have to agree with her?, no, althought i think she was talking about his art, creative mind, we all know commercially he is not even comparable with her.

        S****** Blonde says:

        +3
        -4

        Vote
He really is, he’s artistry is ‘Madness’.
        ____

I would say that you agreed with her. He is not commercially comparable, but if his artistry is madness, then no need for the shade love.

      • S****** Blonde March 22, 2015

Artistically speaking i can see the similarities, as a person, imposible, i’m no shading him, i actually like his music but he’s a joke as a person, that’s all.

I hate foolish petitions like this, but am happy about this, this will bring Kanye’s Huge Ego down a little bit. He is just too full of Himself.

    • StopWithTheDramatics March 22, 2015

Chile…you know damn well this petition will have zero effect on Kanye’s ego. Quit playing yourself.

  8. JOHNVIDAL March 22, 2015

I don´t care about Kanye West but I find this disgusting. Bullying at its finest. Thankfully, they won´t care and go ahead with him headlining.
Not to mention he is obviously very talented.

Your avi is such a damn kiiiiii !!!!!!

  10. Cough Cough March 22, 2015

They should be lucky Kanye is gracing the stage. Did you see the list of performers in the past year that have grazed that stage? Lol either a non name or AARP recipient.

  11. Rosebud (Natalie La Rose Stan) March 22, 2015

He didn’t make a single valid point in his reasons for not wanting Kanye West. I listen to all forms of music and there is no group more annoying then rock fans who believe the only real music involves a guitar. Kanye West is more of an artist than most people who are booked/will be booked to perform. He seems to have an issue with a rapper headlining, especially one who seems impossible to like on a personal level. I bet most signatures are from people who don’t like him as a person too. But, as is seen with only 4 people asking for refunds, we all like his music. We all agree he is a musical genius. Its also seen in his album sales. I bet you the crowd will be going wild during his set too.

    • I STAN(D) FOR TALENT March 22, 2015

Who on earth are you and why does your fave look retarded Kii 😆

  12. AmbeRussell March 22, 2015

Sometimes, these petitions give people a voice who’s voice needs not be heard. They said the Rolling Stones were 2 years ago, but they have not done anything in the past decade, and they have made songs that were really degrading towards women but it was ok bc it was the 60s. But most non hip hop/ rap fans will say rappers are not talented. Anyways. If u don’t like it, don’t attend.

  13. Bow Down (To King Elijah) March 22, 2015

    This isn’t fair.

  14. FutureCIARA March 22, 2015

I knew the people signing this werent even supporters of the festival, and probably had never been. They are jealous haters and just want to pick on Mr. West! Let that man alone before he spirals out of control like Britney did.

  15. MISHKA March 23, 2015

Some people may not like Kanye, but nobody can ignore him.

People will show up, just to listen to his rants.

  16. coolness March 23, 2015

This is unfortunate. I’ve not been feeling Kanye as a public figure and artist in a while but he does have a great catalog of music and is one of the most talented performers of his generation regardless of genre. The majority of the people signing this petition probably aren’t even ticket holders but just disgruntled haters. I’m sure the event organisers dgaf about this and would go ahead with keeping him as a headliner considering there were contractual agreements made. I say Kanye should see this as an opportunity to give the best show and shut his critics up.

  17. Nikki March 23, 2015

This petition is a joke half of the people signing it don’t even know about Glastonbury or where it is, they have never been the person who started it has nver been, these are internet trolls, who have nothing better to do. the promoters of this will look at ticket sales and the numbers not a bunch of idiots on the net with nothing to do. What a sorry bunch.
