Kendrick Lamar’s ‘To Pimp A Butterfly’ Sets New Streaming Record On ‘Spotify’

Published: Wednesday 18th Mar 2015 by David

Weeks before another chart titan is said to surprise the world with a new LP, Kendrick Lamar has learned that his decision to drop his new LP ‘To Pimp a Butterfly’ like a generous thief in the night has paid off…big time.

Set free a week before its original release date, the album has now set a first-day streaming record on the streaming service ‘Spotify’, spun 9.6 million times worldwide in the space of a day.

Doing so has seen him snatch the record away from Michael Bolton’s ‘Christmas’ LP and earn him a reported $44,160 in a single day globally, outperforming Drake’s ‘If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late’ and Madonna’s ‘Rebel Heart’ on the platform.

Do these streams count towards his album sales bc of Billboard new rules? If so, how many units is this?

    • Faf March 18, 2015

      I think it’s like 100k

      • Faf March 18, 2015

But keep in mind this is worldwide billboard is only us charts

      • Mimo March 18, 2015

1500 streams equal one album sales so just a little over 7000 copies

      • Faf March 18, 2015

        I thought every 100k is a sale

  7. Lake Erie March 18, 2015

Wow, I’m happy for him. I’m glad artist are releasing their albums the surprise way because all of the illegal downloading or Bootleg way of getting their music is really cheating them. I think sells will be a hell of a lot more accurate now.

One of the most creative albums I’ve heard in my life. Hip hop has been on a down due to the trying to stay relevant by following a trend. Kendrick did something with this album that most of these rappers know anything about and that is talking about something, empowerment and a movement. If you don’t love this album it’s because your ears are ignorant to good music

Only the most delusional cow can say mediocre ass coleslaw is better than king kendrick

But honestly this whole Streams converting to sales shitt is confusing and for the birds, Relating to charts. I wish him the best though! He has the most potential as a rapper!

P.S Has anyone heard of MaclemorFLOP, Did he die or something? It has literally been non-existent in the media.

  13. Rosie March 18, 2015

Slay. His album is about equal to GKMC imo.
