Kylie Minogue Leaves Jay Z’s Roc Nation

It was billed as a major musical marriage, however Kylie Minogue has announced that she has divorced Roc Nation.

Details below…

Signed to the Jay Z imprint in 2013, Minogue had hoped their management of her career would help steer her to more successful pastures after a rough patch commercially. After all, their roster boasts the likes of present-day superstars such as Rihanna.

However, after the tanking of her aptly titled album ‘Kiss Me Once’ last year, it quickly became apparent that the 46-year-old and the Roc perhaps weren’t the best pairing.

The Daily Mail touts the singer as now wanting “more control of her career” following the partnership’s inability to yield solid sales or sponsorship opportunities.

If indeed the case, Minogue isn’t publicly spilling. Instead, she’s offered a classy goodbye. In a newly released statement, the Pop diva said:

“I’ve had an amazing time with Roc Nation and it’s been fantastic to team up with them over the last two years. We got together at a period in my life when I wanted to shake things up.

I loved collaborating with Roc on the ‘Kiss Me Once’ album, world tour and DVD and have made great friends in the process. I’m now looking forward to my upcoming Summer gigs and embarking on new adventures/

And I want to thank everyone at Roc Nation who have been on this incredible ride with me.”

“Change” seems to be a prominent concept in the singer’s life of late. Last month she departed  Parlophone/Universal Music – her record label home for the last 16 years.

*************

At this stage in the game, we salute any act that understands that time waits for no one. If not happy, keep it moving.

‘Kiss Me Once’ was dreadful, but with a loyal fan-base and the wealth of talent she has left to give, we’re sure Ms. Minogue will land on her stilettos with finesse. She always does.

In the here and now, peep a few highlights from Kylie’s Roc run…

Kylie is huge overseas but can’t seem to take America by storm. Her KISS ME ONCE album is not dreadful it’s actually an amazing album. I was gonna cancel, S*** love, sleeping with the enemy, into the blue, Mr President, etc are all amazing.

I think most artist don’t want to put in the work and think these labels going going to do everything. These labels are nothing more than a bank load and there’s a reason why Rihanna and J.Cole (after busting his ass) are the only two other than Jay with success on that label. And it’s not just Roc, it’s all of them.

Unfortunately, the time/era of popcorn music. They wouldn’t understand.

Kiss Me Once wasn’t dreadful, but it definitely was a far cry from her best works like Body Language, Fever, Impossible Princess, and etc. She has made damn near three decades as am international star excluding the USA. I think she should accept her markets and continue to market there. I wish her well. I can’t wait to travel overseas for her new tour.

  11. Molly March 19, 2015

Poor thing well atleast they still have Rita.

  12. JohnT March 19, 2015

Wow, I didn’t even know she was signed to Roc Nation. She had a big hit my first year in HS. But that was pretty much it for me. She did a have a single they promoted the heck out of on Itunes a few years back, but it seems like she does have strong enough material for a US audience.

  13. FutureCIARA March 19, 2015

Awww, Kylie…. I knew it was a bad move for her anyway. She still slays though! The European Madonna!

  14. Rihboy March 19, 2015

She was dead weight anyways. Just like rita Ora!!! The dividends just aren’t meeting requirements now. Rita Ora will be the next to either dropout or be kicked out. Roc nation needs to become like empire and start polishing up on dead ends. I mean their most powerful force is le queen. She is the only thing keeping the relevant. Everyone else just barely putting in work and living lavishly from minuscule earnings. That’s the only thing I don’t get about roc nation.

You SATANIC ASS better speak on it.

  15. JOHNVIDAL March 19, 2015

I think the main problem is the album and teh first single weren´t ggod enough.
She was coming from a very strong era (Aphrodite) and this new one was kind of disappointing. Something was missing. Music was not good.
Only really really good song in the best Kylie spirit was “Gonna cancel”.

  16. AnnaMaeKeatingsNewWig March 19, 2015

LOL she was too old to have ever been with RocNation in the first place. She’s Britain & Australia’s knock-off madonna and her only legacy is her karaoke hits. She and Dannii need to go to retirement homes pronto.

    It’s pretty simple:

While Jay was securing his alliance with the UK Royals, several deals were part of the handshake –

    *Calvin Harris
    *Rita Oral
    *Kylie Minogue

(to name a few British imports)

This handshake allowed the mentioned artists to trade/do business within the US without stepping on the toes of the “international Beyonce machine” and avoiding conflict of interest –

Jay’s people fall under the worldwide Universal umbrella (pardon the Rihanna pun, appropriately so…now boss of her own subsidiary label under Roc Nation) and dodging to the Beyonce machine, Parkwood/Sony/BMG. Surely, Jay plays a silent partner in Parkwood Entertainment.

    Rival companies

So… If Kylie were to play on the “winning team” and allow Roc Nation take the wheel, she already knows how much marketing and promotion is invested into the Beyonce machine.

(See how Adele escaped? Columbia kept her out of the way during this moment….otherwise, they would have rushed another album as if she were Rihanna)

No female artist would have been as large as Beyonce. While we “sit everyone else down” because their respective labels don’t have the same budget to compete, we (Roc) will allow you to work but it will not supersede my wife/other investment.

Kylie was probably promised 2-3 singles with promotion and tour support, no doubt…killing the merchandise department due to her own legacy.

The only thing great about this album was the second single ‘I Was Gonna Cancel’ produced by Pharrell (Again, a large portion of her recording budge was spent to ensure US success by working with a guaranteed US chart topping record/formula)

The plan wasn’t for Kylie to succeed with ‘Kiss Me Once’ but more Roc’s UK alliance to keep her relevant while the Beyonce machine continued to run everyone off the road, full speed ahead.

Tidbit: Two years ago, Roc Nation hosted their pre-Grammy party @ House Of Blues (Hollywood) – the whole roster was there to support, including Kylie

Jay/Solange/Beyonce were all seated upstairs in VIP w/their entourage. (No mention of behaviors)

Kylie had a reserved VIP table, floor level with the crowd, minimal security – seated with a few friends and crew. She drank water all night and left politely before the crowd.
