“I don’t care who’s around…”
From The Vault is back this week with an “after midnight” special. Pop royal Janet Jackson‘s 1993 hit ‘Any Time Any Place’ is this week’s selection.
Aptly, the track was the fifth single released from the artist’s eponymous fifth LP ‘janet.’, the smooth and sultry jam was yet another Jimmy Jam, Terry Lewis and Jackson concoction and saw the singer thematically pushing the envelope with a voyeuristic setting.
Like all singles from the said album, the track was a monster hit, peaked at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and most importantly spent a then-record breaking 10 weeks at #1 on the Hip-Hop/R&B chart.
Its Urban success was due mostly to its remixed version courtesy of R. Kelly who was on a critical high with his ’12 Play’ album during the song’s time of release.
The Janet jam was brought back to the public’s attention in 2012 when Kendrick Lamar and Drake sampled it for their Hip-Hop smash ‘Poetic Justice’ – in reference to the movie Jackson starred in with legendary rapper Tupac.
For its music video, Jackson adopted a literal approach and can be seen engaging in sensual play with her neighbor.
Despite causing quite the controversy at the time for its explicit content (which these days could arguably be deemed tame), the visual – like most Jackson clips – offered a message. This time about the importance of safe-sex.
Directed by Keir McFarlane, a special edit was made for the R. Kelly remix with additional scenes.
************
Though we really respect and enjoy the more demure approach Janet is taking with the ‘Unbreakable’ project, we do miss “baby-making-songs.” Indeed, much like Marvin Gaye, Ms. Jackson has the ability express even her dirtiest fantasies with an unparalleled air of class and sophistication.
Whatever the case, we’re glad we have Damita Jo back on the radio and the charts again.
Queen.
Yes! A Cece Winan’s Stan? I NEED you to come on here more often because she is EVERYTHING. “Throne Room” and “Purified” we’re EXCELLENT, WELL-ROUNDED bodies of work, but her debut was a cute pop/R&B mix too. My mom went CRAZY when she came to my church and she LOST IT AND WENT OFF when she found out someone stole her Bebe & Cece Winans “First Christmas” album.
Such a classic album.

OMG! Thanks so much for adding me to more categories. I’m a little curious as to how I’m not nominated for “Best C Squad Stan” and “Best Barb”, but I’m content. You’re the best!
Cool. I voted! My picks:
Navy: Mark111 Love him or hate him, I think he often puts up a strong argument (when he’s not being bias).
Best Beyhive: Tyler He doesn’t let anyone get away with taking cheap shots at Bey. I was tempted to go with Career Ender cause I like his kind of crazy when haters do too much with KingB! The hungry one is always funny too, I can’t remember names right now.
I love all them though, Rich, Metzo, Surprise/Dec13, etc!
Best Barb: Barb B****, of course!
Best Lamb: John! He loves everything Mariah, he knows how to drive a point back to Mariah in post that have nothing to do with her. Stephy does love the girl too though! You can totally see him crying for no reason after watching videos like ‘Without You’ or ‘Anytime You Need a Friend;.
Doss is my brother though, he’s my fav!
Best CSquad: the one with Cici in the avi (from the DLWML video)
Best Madge: Next
… seriously, NEXT…
… Nah, it’s S******!
Best Janet stan: Anastasia says everything I didn’t any time I make it into a Janet post late.
cute song
Oooooooh, YESSSSS! Hell YES! This song is so f****** clsssic. Shiiiiit, I lost my virginity to a playlist of her songs back in 2008. Lonely, Someday Is Tonight, Making Love In The Rain, Anything, Love Scene, Would You Mind, WARMTH (My hands wrapped around, stroking up & down! Nothing can compare to the WARMTH of my mouth) … 1993 is my favorite year musically for the 1990s decade. And, Miss Janet is a classic. “The Body That loves You” ooooh, that song is just UGH! Ha whispering ass will always be played in my household, shoot.
Don’t forget the iconic “Strawberry Bounce”. I LOVE “Anything”, by the way, but the moaning at the end was too much for me. Lol!
Yes! Y’all don’t even know. This was the song that PUSHED the creative envelope of sexuality for Ms. Janet right here. I was SHOCKED hearing that smooth, light voice sing about how she wants to please her lover whenever and wherever and how she doesn’t mind the guaranteed nosy individuals that can’t mind their business and stop watching the “show” before them. After this song was released, Janet SOLIFIED herself as a s** icon and the “Janet.” era/movement was officially complete. I love the hell out of my Legend Queen for taking the risks and creating the influence/legacy she did for all of those “performers” to follow. Her blueprint is UNMATCHED. Let the haters and racists stay mad and pressed as hell, while continuing in vain to discredit and belittle her impact.
Janet era was more shocking, artistic, classy and overall more enjoyable than that cringe worthy try hard erotica crap Madonna was going for
No lies mother f****** detected! The “S**” book and “Body of Evidence” film were an iconic kii that she’ll have to forever be looked down upon for, but the bigger kii was when she HID SO FAST from further embarrassing herself and played it safe with “Bedtime Stories”, but what do I know anyway?
LEGENDARY!
I love this song! I think it’s one of the sexiest songs I’ve ever heard. The video also compliments it well because Janet is such a tease. At this stage of her career, I though it was marvelous how Janet was both, so raw and classy (at the same time). That’s the Janet. album in a nutshell! It’s just really is everything! You can learn a lot about the art of sensuality from that masterpiece of an album!
Classic
Reminisce about those better times 100 yesterday ago because this dried up hasbeen can’t do anything commercially successful these days.
The f*** kind of delusional write up is this? Back on the radio and charts, where? Janet’s latest album has tanked like everyone knew it would.
Clllllllllassic! Love her!
Tranet Waxson is such a past due flop. Her new album is joke and is charting like one. Keep clinging to the past because she’s irrelevant today.
Such a beautiful and sensual song, it’s very sexual yet tasteful
MJ’s lesser
Such a hasbeen.
What up
