Following her split from Jimmy Iovine‘s Interscope Iggy Azalea made her way to the U.K. and signed with Universal’s EMI.

There, with the help of the label’s expertise, the rapper kicked off her career in the market with the well-received cut ‘Work’ which would lay the foundations for the her first U.S. hit ‘Fancy.’

Alas, today has seen her reveal that she is deeply annoyed by the label and plans to part ways with them.

Full story below…

Def Jam stands as her U.S. label and she now intends to burn bridges with EMI so that the American label can take full control of her career.

Why?

She claims they were unimpressed by her latest buzz cut ‘A Zillion.’

Peep her announcement below…

I felt like it was dope so, whatever. Ted Cockle doesn’t wanna see me shine. What can I say?

I could say ALOT – but I’ll keep it mildly professional. Just wanted to let some of you guys asking know what’s happening. I’m trying to switch to just Def Jam but cockle is making it hard. They expect me to find a Pop star to wack onto a radio friendly song with me rapping the verses. thats what THEY want.

Let’s hope Iggy finds the answer to her problem soon, as it would be a shame to see her fall out with the team we assume developed the formula she now seems keen to run from.

Though we respect her efforts to deliver something more experimental with ‘Digital Distortion‘ it’s important that Azalea remembers that she doesn’t really have the skills to carry a hit song alone which is probably why EMI is so keen to stick to the script that spawned ‘Fancy’ and the underrated jam that is ‘Black Widow.’

The only way we can Azalea ever nabbing a radio hit without a featured performer owning the hook would be developed a rap-sung vocal style (see Eve‘s ‘Who’s That Girl‘ hook) and perform the choruses on her songs herself.

Keep it locked on TGJ for more on this developing report.

I think her plans are wise. I mean Def Jam promote their artists like hell. Look at Rihanna when she was with Def Jam, she was everywhere with some generic pop microweave hit but she still went 1

Amazed how the public has torn this girl up. No she is not the best female rapper that ever touched a mic. But she also should not be bullied and hated on, let this B_itch shine. White girls need love too

White girls need love too. Hmm. I don’t think society has a history of oppressing white women in particular. By the way, Adele is very popular within the black community because she is credible so your theory can take any one of the unsold seats from Iggy’s failed tour.

  7. Nick Jonas is Zaddy January 21, 2016

Rihanna is a singer and it’s easy to sell songs sang by singers. It’s not easy to sell rap songs recorded by rappers people don’t respect therefore the comparison is just as watery as I assume Iggy’s excuse is every time someone asks her to freestyle. #meow

I love my Iggz but girl just chill. Just because the label doesn’t give in to all your demands don’t mean you just up & say you want a new label. This label has been pushing all your records & has helped you build your success. Don’t get besides yourself & think you don’t need them.

@Nick Jones is Zaddy what you’ve just said is equivalent to things that belong in rubbish. Rihanna is a nocalist who have some generic microwave hit singles that still went 1.

She needs to realise that she isn’t authentic, her accent and now her looks. Her record company are trying to make her more of the money that allows her to be on magazine covers, get surgery and buy nice things, but she want’s to be a credible artist/rapper.
    Okay then…

Who? What’s an Iffy Flopzalea in 2016?

  13. Ughhhh January 21, 2016

Lmao @ she doesn’t have the skills to carry a song alone. That’s a bunch a bs. Iggy may not be the best rapper, but before she went mainstream she had very popular solo music and majority of solo hits were better than her mainstream music collaborations

    #TeamDefJam 🙂

  15. Ace January 21, 2016

She does complain to much.just be happy labels still working with you.she blamed britney for their collab flopping she has nobody to blame but herself.i like azillion flow but the chorus just ok.i mean she see her hits are with singers so do it and fill in with solo stuff.shes too earlynin the game to tryma call shots see why ti stop working with her.

  16. What now January 21, 2016

I just wish this girl would wake tf up! Why do you want creative control and etc. when you don’t even write your own verses? Girl be gone.

    welp..

  18. Authentic January 21, 2016

How the mighty have fallen!!! I believe the GP is slowly moving away from artist that can’t stand on there own two feet.. The industry is changing from huge machines to the artist being the machine…

I do think Iggy Azalea is capable of having hit songs without Pop singers on the chorus. #1 “Work” is one of her best songs of all time. She owns that 2nd verse. #2 “F*** Love” #3 “Goddess” #4 “Change Your Life” and we can even add #5 “100” which had an R&B group singing the chorus on it. Oh and #6 “Trouble” featured JHud and R&B female on the chorus.

So its possible she doesn’t need always a pop female on the chorus. It could be a great re-introduction tactic though.

    #Queen she will prevail
