Dawn Richard is on a roll.

As ‘Serpentine Fire‘ continues to find a home in many a playlist, the former Danity Kane siren makes fresh creative gains with the release of her new visual for the number ‘Wake Up.’

Don’t wake me up, I’ve been dreaming of you. And this love ricochets from me to you.

The visual is inspired Shakespeare’s ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ and delivers what may be some of the singer’s strongest on-screen moments to date.

Step into Dawn’s wildly innovative world below…

With this era, I want to highlight the marriage of fashion, tech, and sound.Wake Up’ is a fashion film inspired by Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and the Faun and the Phoenix narrate this whimsical dream that you don’t want to wake up from.

Her voice is so processed now it wasn’t like that in danity Kane smh

Dope visual …but my only problem with Dawn has been her actual content(music)… some of her songs don’t do her voice and talent justice.

“With this era, I want to highlight the marriage of fashion, tech, and sound” – didn’t Gaga say the same with The Fame Monster and The Fame? Its interesting how pop music is moving away from the out there and crazy fashion for a more stripped down and “natural” image. Adele’s impact I guess. I admire her artistry though

I like dawn but she obviously not making music that I can relate to anymore. I didn’t understand one word shorty said. Man she better let some small talent write for her. Whoever she paying not telling her the truth! Sheesh

Uggghhh….I’m so pissed at Dawn….I actually love her!! Every since she went solo I can’t get into her music…I like some of her song, but majority of it is not good. Some people want to be sooooo different that It comes out corny. Stick to what you use to boo!

I agree!!!! She is trying so hard to be Grace Jones with no grace or Jones for all that matter.

ehh! Visually stunning but I can’t get with the music!. Giving me redneck at a rave overdose tease.

  7. MrsBLack June 10, 2016

She really tried it with that song. I like Dawn but she has lost me.

    Who?

Dawn lost my respect the moment she denied being influenced by brandy. She had the nerve to say she doesn’t understand the comparisons. B**** bye. I’m starting to believe what d woods and the other girls said about dawn being hard to work with. Even Kalena said it. She is trying to hard to be different and it’s coming across wack. There is a fine line between innovative and weird.

How are her visuals as an independent artist on the same level as superstars. Yall r being cheated

Can you make a post of Azealia apologizing on Facebook, i wanna hear everyone’s opinion on it

Dawn stays making music people can’t understand and relate to?
Visual is crazy, but the musical content is lacking so much.
    What is she singing about?

But I guess I may not be her target market or fans she wants to appeal to.

I’m getting a kelis flesh tone era vibe from this. I don’t like the song. While she has some gems here and there on each of her releases, her mixtape ‘a tell tale heart’ was most enjoyable from start to finish and even the dirty money album. But then she switch her sound, sometimes it’s good, sometimes it’s not. But I do admire her independent hustle.

It sounded good she don’t has to use auto tune though her voice is amazing if she wanted to to get people attention drop the auto tune a lot people don’t understand her music but it she do the same a Katy perry for example then they say its popish and basic so you can’t please everyone at least she still trying and she very beautiful this visual slay

I’ve been saying for years that Dawn tries too hard to be different . her stuff is all over the place .

Her style is far from original, she’s jacked from Kelis , FKA Twigs , Nao ( U.K artist ) , and her new album cover is giving me Janelle Monae ” The ArchAndroid ” teas … she even jacked the theme behind Kaleena’s C.O.D mixtape for her ” Bombs ” music video .

I like some of her music but she does TOO MUCH ! her music doesn’t come off as HER but more so someone else .

Dawn is defo a 100 on the making dope videos on a budget.

Her songs not my tea but respect her direction.
Think her musical direction allowed her the freedom of people no longer conparing her vocal style with Brandy cus she has loads of Brandisms when doing straight R&B cuts.

Would like her to bring more DK edge considering she was the glue to their sound with Drea anyway

  17. Caramix June 11, 2016

Dawn does not want to people and fans to label or box her into one genre, but she has done a pretty good job of doing that on her own.

Why do I expect to hear the same auto tuned electronic mess every time she premieres a new song?

I hope she finds a balance between electronic and real music with replay value in the next era.
