Beyonce and Jay-Z shocked the masses when they dropped their surprise-but-much-rumored joint album ‘Everything Is Love’ over the weekend.
The 9-track set was turbo-powered by the video for ‘APES**T,’ which featured the couple flexing inside and outside the Louvre in Paris.
And it seems folk are reacting exactly how the song’s title asks.
As at writing, ‘APES**T’ has rocketed to #1 on US iTunes.
The feat occurred on the same day the album went wide at digital retailers, Apple Music, and Spotify following a window of TIDAL exclusivity.
Of course, the cut’s streaming and radio performance will need to be factored in to determine its ultimate Billboard placement. But, in the here and now, it’s slaying out of the gate.
Granted it’s unlikely that “traditional promo” is breakfast table convo for The Carters, it will be interesting to see what they have up their sleeve (beyond their ‘On The Run II Tour’) to plug the project.
‘APESH**T’ is easily the album’s most workable track in terms of commercial potential, so we’re crossing our fingers and toes for a huge push.
