Drake’s ‘Scorpion’ Sales Predictions Revised…Downwards

Published: Monday 2nd Jul 2018 by Sam

Factually, Drake‘s ‘Scorpion’ is on-course to debut with the year’s highest first week sales.

However, it now seems the set may not be packing as much of a sting as perhaps thought.

Details below…

Initially, it was reported that Drizzy was eyeing a sales-plus-streaming opening in the ballpark of 870,000-920,000 (with pure sales to the tune of 275,000-300,000).

However, it seems early momentum isn’t holding up. Because Hits Daily Double have revised Aubrey’s forecast DOWN.

Here’s what the set is tracking towards now:

725,000-775,000
[Sales Plus Streams]

********
150,000-160,000
[Pure Sales]

**********

The SPS figure is still gargantuan given what most are doing these days, but the dip (from the first set of digits) is undeniable. Especially those pure sales. 150k for today’s top selling act?! Eww.

Sure, streaming has changed the game and Drake won’t be losing any sleep, but this really ought to serve as a challenge to artists and labels to find a more compelling proposition when it comes to physical/downloadable music.

Bonus tracks, limited formats like vinyl, special editions only sold at tour venues, something,… anything. Because, if not, there’s next to no point to the physical format at this point.

Your thoughts?

Lol literally most of his sales are from streaming. He’s a streaming artist. I wouldnt Be surprised if it was revised downward again a 2nd time.

    • Bam Bam July 2, 2018

Aren’t most artist streaming artist nowadays. Nobody buys albums like that anymore.

    • DIABETES UNBOTHERED July 2, 2018

      150,000-160,000
      [Pure Sales]

Let that sink in for a bit Drakeisha Stans lol, that’s HALF original prediction ?

  2. DIABETES UNBOTHERED July 2, 2018

    LMFAOOOOOOOOOOOO ?

LET THE KING OF FRONT LOADED TAKE HIS BOW AMONG KING AND QUEEN CARTER. Them Rihanna Number to go with the #1 hits ?

THIS FRONT LOADED DISASTER IS EVEN WORSE THAN VIEWS LOL. STREAMS mean nothing in the long run

And the Carter’s shall remain #UNBOTHERED as On The Run continues it’s streak of sold out STADIUMS ?️ #Status

    • Jasmine (The Real Jasmine) July 2, 2018

Stop saying “front loaded”. Jigga and Bey’s album is front loaded with 73% sales decline in its second week. Christina had a 95% sales decline second week. Everybody is front loaded these days except Cardi B.

      • Faf July 3, 2018

        Cardi ain’t loaded period

She only has sold 170k in 3 mos

    • DIABETES UNBOTHERED July 2, 2018

DRAKE Is officially DONE. The Carter’s would sell at least 400k off Solo Efforts even without a hit. This wouldnt be considered a flop in the absence of 2 #1 HITS and HYPE. All for 250k, This won’t go platinum outside of billboard magic lol BRUNO MARS would never

      • Caleb July 2, 2018

        The delusion

      • LostOne July 2, 2018

Drake is done yet he has the biggest opening sales for 2018 please make it make sense.

      • SNF July 3, 2018

        Yall are truly delusional lol

These numbers seem more realistic. Congrats Drake. My man is still pisssing on J****** and Roach’s sales. They are seething because their little “surprise” release album didn’t work but they need not worry because everybody’s sales is down. People ain’t buying albums anymore and streaming is NOT the album because that means pennies on the dollar. I think the best thing the music industry can do at this point is to shut down streaming and revert back to the way albums were sold in the 80s and 90s (ie physical CDs) with the addition of digital downloads. There are always going to be free downloaders and bootleggers but when you look at the overall pennies on the dollar streaming brings it makes more sense to go back to the old way of selling music with physical releases.

… why is it bad that the physical sales is low? streaming is the way to go these days.

    • Belladonna July 2, 2018

Because this blog is rooted in the past and there never going to let the old ways go. Drake is the new MJ and the streams prove it.

      • tyana jones July 3, 2018

DRAKE IS NOT NEW MJ BREEZY IS STOP IT!!!!!!!!!

  5. Belladonna July 2, 2018

If you still buy albums today your crazy. Who cares about sales this man is on track to do over 700 million streams in a week. The world is moving on from sales so you need to get with it.

    • Jasmine (The Real Jasmine) July 2, 2018

      I agree Belladonna 100%

  6. DanYiel Iman July 2, 2018

Those Caucasians & females are purchasing that foolishness, I’ll keep passing on it!!

  7. justafan July 2, 2018

Thing is…artists and labels don’t make money on streams so this is a poor debut.

    • LostOne July 2, 2018

U sound fuqn dumb. If artists n labels not making money off streaming then why do they count streaming towards album n single sales.

      • iamdiego July 3, 2018

google is free. idk propaganda maybe? sales are lower than EVER. all these artist breaking streaming records every week (apple music + spotify with billions of streams) but no impact or real accolades after their achievements. The standards are not the same as 30 yrs ago or even 10-15 yrs ago. honestly they might need change the certification process. Use streaming as promo (for a limited time) and base the sales from pure figures. 250k gold, 500k platinum, and so on. create something new for artist whole sale 2 mil or more Just leave the diamond status at 10 mil copies sold.

  8. Thando July 2, 2018

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: streaming is not the answer to piracy, illegal downloads and leaks. Streaming desensitizes audiences into not buying entire albums. The old way needs to be adapted differently but streaming is not it. Streaming works well for VISUAL media like series, movies and live event etc but not audio material meant for commercial release. The old way is still the only way: CDs, radio airplay, and other forms of physical release PLUS streaming AFTER. It cannot be enough to “move on with the times” when 300 000 at 1st week is now the new benchmark. Seriously!? 300K from an A-list performer. No man. The money they lose through bootlegged CDs is way less than money lost from streaming. Streaming is not it, I’m not anti-change I’m just against things that don’t make sense and streaming music while you’re selling it elsewhere doesn’t make sense. At least to me lol. Bring back the CD! If you’re worried about leaks, do what Beyonce does after each recording session, take all the harddrives home with you.

    • ROCK July 2, 2018

You took the words right out of my mouth.
Besides, isn’t it double counting?Drake album numbers are coming from the streaming of God’s plan and that other song..which means counting the singles and counting if as album too.

      • iamdiego July 3, 2018

on top of being a double album which means double sales.. no one is talking about that. half of 150k is 75k.

  9. Jay Jay July 3, 2018

That’s still good! Also is being a “streaming artist” bad? I mean streaming is taking over. No one really buys albums anymore and it was announced Best Buy will no longer carry CDs here in the US. I’m sure target and Walmart will follow too.

  10. Theman July 3, 2018

He should have released the physical album with the digital. They relied too much on streaming. Justin Timberlake would have sold more in terms of pure sales. He should be selling way more than this. He is a huge artist. A physical album not coinciding with these digital albums are messing up these artists numbers. His last album debuted with huge numbers because he had both physical/digital.

    • iamdiego July 3, 2018

idk if thats true because physical copies have declined over the past 5 yrs or so. most ppl buy music from itunes.

  11. tru.teeetelller July 3, 2018

Its actually sad to witness an END of an ERA music is now FREE…..
literally only artists like adele can sell these days bruce springsteen etc.
truth be told young people n black people dont buy music but they do buy concert tickets merch & endorsed products music is really there now to advertise the acts concerts.

meaning most of the acts moving forward would be ones that can pull crowds n do good shows songwriting is basically dead too. sad sad sad

  12. Whoops ???‍♀️?? July 3, 2018

This is bad. His pure sales have literally been cut in half.

  13. B2B July 3, 2018

I’m scared for Nicki and Ari….. this guy basically about to sell 70-80K cds since this is a double disk. WOW! The promo was there as well as the anticipation. Gods plan and Nice for What my songs, but damn this is not good. Some new rules for streaming soon. J&B might actually claim the top spot after all. Hopefully 1-200k pure next week.

  14. SNF July 3, 2018

Drake is king. Yall still talkin bout pure sales ? Give it up. Its 2018 not 2008…

    • tyana jones July 3, 2018

drake is KING OF OVERRATED AS S***!!!

  15. StarXavi July 3, 2018

I dunno why people still try to shade artists for killing it on streaming….everyone get real!!! No one is really buying copies of music….I pay for a Spotify premium account and I will never buy another song again. Unless its unavailable on Spotify and I cant find it any other way. The point of music is for it to be listened to and consumed….Spotify…Apple Music….Tidal have given us all a way to consume the music we want when we want it. It’s still a huge feat to get so many equivalent sales from just streaming. Lots of artist still cant!
