Album Stream: Mariah Carey – ‘Caution’

Published: Friday 16th Nov 2018 by Sam

Mariah Carey‘s fifteenth studio album ‘Caution’ is here.

The set, which is led by ‘GTFO,’ is Mimi’s first body of work since 2014’s ‘Me. I Am Mariah…The Elusive Chanteuse’ and comes after a block of years filled with big wins and equally towering challenges.

Indeed, successful tours and Vegas residencies have been juxtaposed with a very public managerial dispute and live mishaps.

Still, like the legend she is, Carey has weathered the storm and emerged with one of her strongest collections in years.

Boasting production from the likes of Timbaland, Poo Bear, and Skrillex, ‘Caution’ also sees the songbird fly to vocal heights with guests including Ty Dolla $ign, Blood Orange, Slick Rick, and Gunna. All with delicious results.

So, what are you waiting for? Listen to new Mariah after the jump.

Very. Solid. Effort. And of course she released all the wrong songs for promo purposes except for The Distance! I give it 3 stars out of 5!

    • Jasmine November 16, 2018

4 Words: Stay Long Love You. That is my jam right there. I think the album overall is sexxy and cute. It’s missing something though but I liked it.

      • Truthtea November 16, 2018

Yes def missing something but it’s ok. Stay Long Love You gives me I Know What U Want vibes!

      • Luz November 16, 2018

This is album is silver; but not platinum. Nice try tho.

      • Jasmine November 16, 2018

I agree. I wonder who is picking the singles though. “Giving Me Life” and “Portrait” are stand out ballads. “Stay Long Love You” featuring Gunna is the main upbeat track. Why weren’t those the singles?

      • #TeamTinashe Stan November 16, 2018

Maybe u should listen to it more instead of putting a conclusion on it in 1 hour.
Albums develop through time not by a hour or day.

      • Gaga’s Monster November 16, 2018

Something is not right… missing an artistic direction. It sounds rather generic something Ariana would release. Hahahah

    • Miss Jay November 16, 2018

I’m trying hard to like this album but I’m not feeling it. 🙁

      • Lmao_Hoe November 16, 2018

Gotta relisten perhaps, it’s not a mad album at all 💯

      • Mmmmm November 16, 2018

I dont get the theme tho. Is it romantic, break-up or empowerment album? The direction somehow is misleading. I’ll stick to Chanteuse.

      • Kassie November 16, 2018

I’m with you there. Zing after song I just kept waiting to be wowed. And nothing happened. It’s not a bad album. But there’s no moment in it

      • Kassie November 16, 2018

        *Song after song

      • Sherina November 16, 2018

        Agreed, lack of wow-factor!

    • Gaga’s Monster November 16, 2018

It’s a FLOP for me. Stop making this happens ’cause it’s not happening. Gurl, bye.

      • STFU November 16, 2018

Oh shut up. Happening is when Gaga’s became a Jazz singer just to get the Grammys with a help from a grandpa named Tony.

      • Jasmine Da Bi Asian iBully TROLLmine Rasuptia (hermaphrodite) on the daily November 16, 2018

@stfu Mariah needs to do a jazz album. Also the “grandpa “ who Gaga did a jazz album with also had another jazz album out that year with a duet featuring Mariah called “when will bells ring for me”. Same grandpa you’re shading. Idk why she’s almost 50 and hasn’t done a jazz album. Have you heard the remix to “anytime you need a friend” where she’s doing jazz scatting? Have you seen her do random jazz performances in clubs? You OBVIOUSLY don’t know Mariah or her catalogue/credentials

      • Huhuhuk November 16, 2018

Jazz is for a desperate artist like Gaga.

    • . November 16, 2018

PORTRAIT. Is the Best song she has done since We Belong Together and Fly Like a bird. The lyrics, the vocals and the piano. That’s all she needed. Not one song Lyrically or Vocally touches PORTRAIT. Grammy Material. The song……is heartbreaking.

  2. Tarter_sauce November 16, 2018

Mariah is so consistant i like the album. I respect her writing ability.

    • La Vida Loca November 16, 2018

Caution is lacking of sumthing.. sumthing! It OK. 😏

  3. Lmfao_Hoe November 16, 2018

This album is amazing, truly listen to each song and understand the messages. Who cares about the sells when it should be focused on the quality. Love all the songs. Giving Me Life, Portrait, Caution, and Stay Long Love You can definitely be singles with visuals added too

  4. DanYiel November 16, 2018

    She’s a platinum artist!!🎶

    • Lisa November 16, 2018

      Not anymore!

    • Lisa November 16, 2018

120k first week sales on Billboard 200.

  5. Gee November 16, 2018

This is what I call giving quality over quantity. It been 25, years since Mariah has released an album containing only ten songs and I have to say that I am very happy with the end result. Even with working with current producers I still got Mariah that I know and that I appreciate. Bravo job well done.

  6. Justafan November 16, 2018

The direction of this album so far ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Solid, the most cohesive album to date effortlessly going from track to track and omggg @ this acoustic guitar moment in Giving me Life

    • Lmao_Hoe November 16, 2018

Yesss, God she better not pay it dust. We need live performances, storyline vid, and single treatment. Idk why too but I felt like a mordern version of The Roof too

  7. Coco November 16, 2018

Strictly for Lambs. The last 2 singles didn’t make me wanna jump…YES!

  8. Casual Lamb November 16, 2018

Caution is good but not excellent. No thanks…from me.

    • No name needed November 16, 2018

It’s good but not great and deserving of a no thanks. That makes no sense. The album is good stop your nonsense and GTFO

  9. Meteorite November 16, 2018

Not my favorite album from her, but I still bought it anyway.
Although I have to admit, both Xtina and Mariah disappointed me musically this year. Not saying what they released is bad, just not what I was wanting from them personally.

    • Lol November 16, 2018

They do casinos maybe this album just for fans. 🤭

  10. Layola November 16, 2018

She should take a break, seriously.

    • Jasmine November 16, 2018

Mariah stays booked and under contracts so that is not possible. She has contracts to tour and do Vegas. Taking a break would cost her a lot of money and she likes her money bags.

      • Truth November 16, 2018

You know you are a done deal when you do casinos!

      • Quicksand November 16, 2018

        No you’re not Truth!
Sorry to say I consider Mariah’s career long bond, but Celine and Cher did casinos and they’re in and still have a career. So as Shania, Britney and JLo, all of them have sales, hits and sold out tours but decided do do casinos for a while.
Mariah’s the one who’s living just on past accomplishments and doing casinos cause she still have some value to the right people.

      • Quicksand November 16, 2018

  11. Lmao_Hoe November 16, 2018

People love to complain yet aren’t giving LOGICAL reasons behind why they don’t like these songs yet will be in another post praising basic non singers then wonder why the industry is the way it is with the lack of mainstream quality.

    • LEO November 16, 2018

I had to sign in… yesssss!! No logical reason. The f*** they want from her lol?? While praising talentless girls who cant write. Ageism and sexism is at play…

  12. Jasmine Da Bi Asian iBully TROLLmine Rasuptia (hermaphrodite) on the daily November 16, 2018

It’s better than I was expecting. I like “one mo gen”, “caution” and “8th grade” the best. It’s a good album. Nothing STELLAR but a solid listen and I’ll be meeting her tomorrow to get my copy signed. See u in the snow DAHHLING!

  13. Ha November 16, 2018

    She never dissappoints!

    Amazing production, lyrics and vocals!

Portrait is straight off of Rainbow..her voice could easily have passed for that era!

I love her and so happy she’s still making music.

I met her when she got her star on the walk of fame and still have my signed phone case locked away.

    • Jasmine Da Bi Asian iBully TROLLmine Rasuptia (hermaphrodite) on the daily November 16, 2018

Portrait is good but the climax is NOTHING alike Rainbow vocals. It’s “caution” vocals. Let’s be realistic about new Mariah vocals for what they are. She sounds good but her vocals are her weakest to date on this album.

      • MariahsHoney November 16, 2018

Still better than 99.99% of all singers in the industry. Hate all u want, Mariah has two albums on #Top5 and Merry Christmas also in top 50 last I checked.
Ugh rnb is my favorite genre and Mariah did the damn thang. Easily the best album released this year 💃🏽
Her creativity and her melodies are unparalleled. Her songwriting has always been her biggest strength. The most talented/successful singer songwriter producer of all time.

      • Jasmine Da Bi Asian iBully TROLLmine Rasuptia (hermaphrodite) on the daily November 16, 2018

99.5% of bubblegum teeny pop. Not the industry because I can give you ample receipts of much better vocals. I do like the album

  14. Jasmine Da Bi Asian iBully TROLLmine Rasuptia (hermaphrodite) on the daily November 16, 2018

It’s missing an element tho. I will say that. There is something about it that’s lacking, I think it’s something deep/organically r& b/throwback. She started to go there the last song “portrait” but it’s nlt enough. This is a good EP though but it seems incomplete

    • Theman November 16, 2018

It’s not missing anything. She sung the sings great. It just seems like she’s underneath the sings & she’s subdued for the most part. Usually, she’ll Mariah songs up. But she kinda played off of a certain vibe. The album is fresh & great. The production is crisp. And she has a stellar voice.

      • Jasmine Da Bi Asian iBully TROLLmine Rasuptia (hermaphrodite) on the daily November 16, 2018

@theMan you’re delusional, ur comments are not logical

    • Jay November 16, 2018

Lack of creativity and melodic hook.

  15. TABOO November 16, 2018

    8th Grade…MY GAWD!!!

  16. Tokyo Vanity fan November 16, 2018

Love the album. It’s short though, so it leaves me wanting more. Great job Mimi

  17. Arthus & Nico November 16, 2018

It’s a nice album but 10 songs when already 4 were already released is not enough for me
And of course I miss a big Mariah Carey ballad and a cover

    The lyrics are well thought

It’s so cool she’s releasing new material for her fans, that’s what we want and that’s why she keeps her fans for so long

  18. Olusheyi November 16, 2018

    This is a great album

  19. aJ November 16, 2018

Trash . This replaces charmbracelet as her worst album . Like b**** did you even try?

    • Nanay November 16, 2018

She is playing casinos across in North America 2019. Go figure!!!

    • eric November 17, 2018

I bought Charmbracelet and I honestly don’t remember a single song or melody from the album. I listened to it maybe 1-1/2 times before tossing it aside. Sadly, I won’t remember this newest album either.

  20. Liam November 16, 2018

I love this album it’s current but still Mariah at the same time def a 4/5 rating from me.

  21. The one November 16, 2018

This is album of the year for me!!!
    I enjoyed every track!

  22. Ozawa November 16, 2018

I love the 90s Mariah. This album I’m not sure. Leftovers from Charmbracelet maybe. There is no magic of We Belong Together!! 🤷🏿‍♀️

  23. Truth November 16, 2018

    🌟🌟out of 5!

  24. Faraj November 16, 2018

Umphhh factor isn’t there. Charmbracelet pt II

  25. Im Bored Already November 16, 2018

I doubt this album will reach Gold even in the US! 😴

    • No name November 16, 2018

      Will sell 30k-50k at most
I don’t think a gold certification is even a possibility

  26. ShakingtheTable @shakegetshook November 16, 2018

This album is a whole bop! Everyone’s a critic, especially with the comparisons to the rest of her catalog. Appreciate Mimi for what she’s still doing. If y’all want to hear songs that’s sound like We Belong Together and Touch My Body I would suggest you listen to TEOM and E=MC2.

Mariah produced a cohesive and beautiful body of work that is full of feels, lyrics galore, and surprises. And who cares about the singles that she released prior?!! I’m just happy majority of the songs not released prior are better! I was worried about an album full of fillers but she delivereud!

Stream Caution and if you’re not happy with it she has 14 other studio albums…so just shut it and pick one 💁🏽‍♂️

    • Days3 November 16, 2018

👏👏👏👏👏YESSSSSS! I 1000% agree! Let them know! Now playing ‘one mo gen’

  27. audreyherbsburn November 16, 2018

if this album is “missing” anything, that’s about 4 or 5 more songs. This is her shortest tracklisting since the “Emotions” album. This is very solid. She sounds very current without losing her Mariah-ness. She’s in her range and she’s having fun. This is a respectable record.

  28. No name November 16, 2018

    Worst album of the year!
Her vocals are barely there and the amount of auto tune is baffling.
Not to mention the lyrics and the production of the album in general.
I’d give it (2 out 5) stars and I’m being generous here.

    • Kassie November 17, 2018

I must admit, I have given the album a few more listens and it has grown on me but yesI, I have to say, for an artist who has made a name for herself as, a legendary songbird, the autotune is really disturbing

  29. pat November 16, 2018

very solid effort from a studio vocal 2018 Mariah .. im enjoying it

  30. BeytheQueen November 16, 2018

This will be available at a discounted price soon.

  31. cocobutta November 16, 2018

What’s missing is she went safe vocally with the limits of what Mariah has.
But her safe is still many vocalists slay.

Nice tracks kept in the pocket.
    Ballads shine the most.
    Portrait is 🔥😍

  32. Team November 16, 2018

Sorry MiMi not felling this one, I give her an a for effort though

  33. B2B November 16, 2018

Now had Mariah given it to you h*** you would be crying about wtf she can do live. Mimi is a living legend how about y’all GTFO her post. Best female songwriter of our time, like cmon fck outta here with you negativity she did awesome.

  34. #TheTruth November 16, 2018

I don’t get the hate with Charmbracelet.
See I don’t think she has one horrible album, it’s just up to people to say which one is their fav regarding their personal tastes.

Charmbracelet has some fantastic records like I Only Wanted, Clown, Subtle Invitation… lots of live instruments and I love that.

Unfortunately she used way too much her breathy register. She could have kept it for the first verse then move on but she didn’t.

Regarding Caution, props to her for trying something different sonically.
I like the use of the lower register but vocally she barely has any « moment ».
I wish there was more constrat with 2-3 more songs that are a bit more « classic Mariah ».

I’ll listen to it again but as far as I’m concerned I’m not like « wow » on first listen and it’s not upthere with my favs.

I always have very high expectations with MC because she’s my favorite voice and lots of her songs are my all time favs.
I don’t want to sound like I’m stuck in the past because I’m not talking about her voice.
But when I hear songs like The Roof that have set the bar very high I’m always expecting to find a gem like that. And it’s not the case with that album to me.

Even tho so far I love Portrait and Giving me life.
With You… is my least fav I think.

Even with her « uptempos ». Like A No No for example is cool but it lacks something to me.

Anyway glad to still get new music, I’ll listen to it again and I wish her loads of success. Keep doing your thing MC, Love you.

  35. ??? November 16, 2018

    lmao thank u, next 😂😂😂 #allteaallshade

  36. JOHNVIDAL November 16, 2018

Something nobody can deny is that the album IS COHESIVE. Chanteuse for example had a way more random mix of songs. And it is also solid in my opinion. I would say, to make it perfect, the album could have ended with a couple of strong ballads (with her current vocals don´t get me wrong. I don´t want her to go for something she cannot at 50 and nodules). Even if teh rest of the album didn´t have any of that, ending it that way could have been a present to fans. All in all, she keeps being creative with lyrics and vocals. I hope it does as good as it possibly can. Also amazing the GLITTER shine in 2018 🙂

    • Quicksand November 16, 2018

Glitter shine? Jeez..according to chart data you old lambs bought 3000 copies that’s all xD
This just serves as an exemple how’s the music industry today in the us.
An album with 3000 copies sold is #1 on iTunes us hahaha
      Merry Xmas To U Dahling!

      • #TheTruth November 16, 2018

Are you sure about that figure ?
        I read 5000 copies.
But anyway I get your point and it’s true, you don’t need to sell hundreds of thousands of copies to get the top stop on iTunes.

But the achievement and moreover very surprising is being back at #1 on a selling platform 17 years later.
Especially after being trashed by many.

Unfortunately the people associated the lack of quality of the movie to the album, thinking it would be the very same.

But that album has some great funk uptempos. And some of her best recorded vocals… people are just quick to talk BS.

  37. eric November 17, 2018

It’s all a bunch of talk-sing. The only time she’s actually singing and creating something at the level she’s truly capable of is “Portrait”. Everything else I can get from listening to JD’s songs on the EOM album. Oh well. I’ll save my money like I have the last 12 years.
