The set, which is led by ‘GTFO,’ is Mimi’s first body of work since 2014’s ‘Me. I Am Mariah…The Elusive Chanteuse’ and comes after a block of years filled with big wins and equally towering challenges.
Indeed, successful tours and Vegas residencies have been juxtaposed with a very public managerial dispute and live mishaps.

I agree. I wonder who is picking the singles though. “Giving Me Life” and “Portrait” are stand out ballads. “Stay Long Love You” featuring Gunna is the main upbeat track. Why weren’t those the singles?

PORTRAIT. Is the Best song she has done since We Belong Together and Fly Like a bird. The lyrics, the vocals and the piano. That’s all she needed. Not one song Lyrically or Vocally touches PORTRAIT. Grammy Material. The song……is heartbreaking.

This album is amazing, truly listen to each song and understand the messages. Who cares about the sells when it should be focused on the quality. Love all the songs. Giving Me Life, Portrait, Caution, and Stay Long Love You can definitely be singles with visuals added too

This is what I call giving quality over quantity. It been 25, years since Mariah has released an album containing only ten songs and I have to say that I am very happy with the end result. Even with working with current producers I still got Mariah that I know and that I appreciate. Bravo job well done.

Although I have to admit, both Xtina and Mariah disappointed me musically this year. Not saying what they released is bad, just not what I was wanting from them personally.

Mariah stays booked and under contracts so that is not possible. She has contracts to tour and do Vegas. Taking a break would cost her a lot of money and she likes her money bags.

Sorry to say I consider Mariah’s career long bond, but Celine and Cher did casinos and they’re in and still have a career. So as Shania, Britney and JLo, all of them have sales, hits and sold out tours but decided do do casinos for a while.

It’s better than I was expecting. I like “one mo gen”, “caution” and “8th grade” the best. It’s a good album. Nothing STELLAR but a solid listen and I’ll be meeting her tomorrow to get my copy signed. See u in the snow DAHHLING!

Portrait is straight off of Rainbow..her voice could easily have passed for that era!

Portrait is good but the climax is NOTHING alike Rainbow vocals. It’s “caution” vocals. Let’s be realistic about new Mariah vocals for what they are. She sounds good but her vocals are her weakest to date on this album.
Still better than 99.99% of all singers in the industry. Hate all u want, Mariah has two albums on #Top5 and Merry Christmas also in top 50 last I checked.

Her creativity and her melodies are unparalleled. Her songwriting has always been her biggest strength. The most talented/successful singer songwriter producer of all time.

It’s missing an element tho. I will say that. There is something about it that’s lacking, I think it’s something deep/organically r& b/throwback. She started to go there the last song “portrait” but it’s nlt enough. This is a good EP though but it seems incomplete
It’s not missing anything. She sung the sings great. It just seems like she’s underneath the sings & she’s subdued for the most part. Usually, she’ll Mariah songs up. But she kinda played off of a certain vibe. The album is fresh & great. The production is crisp. And she has a stellar voice.

I bought Charmbracelet and I honestly don’t remember a single song or melody from the album. I listened to it maybe 1-1/2 times before tossing it aside. Sadly, I won’t remember this newest album either.

This album is a whole bop! Everyone’s a critic, especially with the comparisons to the rest of her catalog. Appreciate Mimi for what she’s still doing. If y’all want to hear songs that’s sound like We Belong Together and Touch My Body I would suggest you listen to TEOM and E=MC2.
Mariah produced a cohesive and beautiful body of work that is full of feels, lyrics galore, and surprises. And who cares about the singles that she released prior?!! I’m just happy majority of the songs not released prior are better! I was worried about an album full of fillers but she delivereud!
Stream Caution and if you’re not happy with it she has 14 other studio albums…so just shut it and pick one ??♂️

if this album is “missing” anything, that’s about 4 or 5 more songs. This is her shortest tracklisting since the “Emotions” album. This is very solid. She sounds very current without losing her Mariah-ness. She’s in her range and she’s having fun. This is a respectable record.
Worst album of the year!
Her vocals are barely there and the amount of auto tune is baffling.
Not to mention the lyrics and the production of the album in general.

I must admit, I have given the album a few more listens and it has grown on me but yesI, I have to say, for an artist who has made a name for herself as, a legendary songbird, the autotune is really disturbing

I don’t get the hate with Charmbracelet.
See I don’t think she has one horrible album, it’s just up to people to say which one is their fav regarding their personal tastes.
Charmbracelet has some fantastic records like I Only Wanted, Clown, Subtle Invitation… lots of live instruments and I love that.
Unfortunately she used way too much her breathy register. She could have kept it for the first verse then move on but she didn’t.
Regarding Caution, props to her for trying something different sonically.
I like the use of the lower register but vocally she barely has any « moment ».
I wish there was more constrat with 2-3 more songs that are a bit more « classic Mariah ».
I’ll listen to it again but as far as I’m concerned I’m not like « wow » on first listen and it’s not upthere with my favs.
I always have very high expectations with MC because she’s my favorite voice and lots of her songs are my all time favs.
I don’t want to sound like I’m stuck in the past because I’m not talking about her voice.
But when I hear songs like The Roof that have set the bar very high I’m always expecting to find a gem like that. And it’s not the case with that album to me.
Even tho so far I love Portrait and Giving me life.

Something nobody can deny is that the album IS COHESIVE. Chanteuse for example had a way more random mix of songs. And it is also solid in my opinion. I would say, to make it perfect, the album could have ended with a couple of strong ballads (with her current vocals don´t get me wrong. I don´t want her to go for something she cannot at 50 and nodules). Even if teh rest of the album didn´t have any of that, ending it that way could have been a present to fans. All in all, she keeps being creative with lyrics and vocals. I hope it does as good as it possibly can. Also amazing the GLITTER shine in 2018 🙂

But anyway I get your point and it’s true, you don’t need to sell hundreds of thousands of copies to get the top stop on iTunes.
But the achievement and moreover very surprising is being back at #1 on a selling platform 17 years later.
Especially after being trashed by many.
Unfortunately the people associated the lack of quality of the movie to the album, thinking it would be the very same.
But that album has some great funk uptempos. And some of her best recorded vocals… people are just quick to talk BS.
It’s all a bunch of talk-sing. The only time she’s actually singing and creating something at the level she’s truly capable of is “Portrait”. Everything else I can get from listening to JD’s songs on the EOM album. Oh well. I’ll save my money like I have the last 12 years.
