Ashanti On New Album: ‘My Brand Of R&B Fills A Void’

Published: Monday 10th Dec 2018 by TGJ Staff

Songbird Ashanti is stepping back into the limelight, and this time it’s as the latest subject of Paper magazine’s ‘Break The Internet’ segment.

Alongside topics such as self-expression and social media, the ‘Foolish’ singer as quizzed about the status of her new music, and her response is exciting to say the least.

Her words after the jump…

Revealing that she’s been working in Atlanta with Metro Boomin, the 37-year-old expressed that she was experimenting with her vulnerability on hew new project and teased:

“I think people will be like, ‘What did she say?’ which is a really cool thing. I can’t say names of anyone else involved yet. But the feedback has been great so far — I’ve had conversations about there being a real void for true, soul-touching R&B, and that’s what I feel I’m accomplishing with this record.”

The performer also shared that she and friend/frequent collaborator Ja Rule will indeed make time to record a collaboration album.

Ms. Douglas released ‘Say Less’ featuring Ty Dolla $ign earlier this year, but we’ve not heard much from her since.

And yet oddly we remain buzzed for her project. Are you?

Your thoughts?

      No it hasn’t….

  3. Meme December 10, 2018

No sis your brand of r&b fills no void. In fact, your music sounds cheap and basic. Nobody says oh I want to hear good r&b let me go listen to Ashanti. Lol. We have HER, Sza, Tinashe, 7 and solanfe for that.

    • PettySpaghetti December 10, 2018

The only credit here is Solange and (Maybe) HER (her music just ain’t for me…) SZA be singing in italics and y’all give her tew much ?

    • December 10, 2018

Yet no one person you mention comes close to her stats ?

    • Karter December 10, 2018

@Meme I totally agree. She lost me when she said “soul touching R&B”, Solange, SZA and HER immediately came to mind. Unfortunately, people like @… only see “stats” so they won’t understand. Ashanti herself hasn’t even made soul touching R&B since the early to mid 2000s, even then, it was more commercialized than “soul touching”.
