Katy Perry has returned.
Looking to put the polarizing ‘Witness’ era behind her, the songbird has hatched new release ‘Never Really Over’ – her first solo offering in two years.
Produced by Zedd and Dreamlab, the jam sees Perry explore the effect relationships – of all varieties – have on us.
Speaking on ‘Never,’ she explained:
“All of our relationships – from first love, through failed love, to great love – all become a part of you, so that none are ever really over, and once you accept both the dark and the light, you may find that the darkness brought you to the light.”
Ever visual, Perry has wasted no time unwrapping the track’s accompanying video.

Am I here for this? Eh, but this is the Katy Perry we expected and never got last album.
Is it the cup of tea folks are looking? Maybe not, but it’s her lane. Generic as it may sound, no one really rides this Roar/Part of Me/Firework #1 hit-lane like Katy does. Not 2019 Pink, not 2019 Ariana or Kelly Clarkson, definitely not 2019 T. Swift with that overly sugary “Me!” garbage. This is authentically Katy. Whatever she needed to get out of her system last era, with that Swish Swish, Bon Appetit, short-hair b*******, I’m glad it’s gone. This right here is where we expected her to move as an artist, both sonically and visually the right progression for her from Teenage Dream and Prism/Roar. Am I here for it? Nah. Will it be effective? Yes, damn straight. Top 40/pop radio is all sad/mellow Billie Ellish, Halsey crying, 7 Rings, Dancing Alone With Strangers bop right now. 2nd single will need to be tad less generic though.
This is a welcome, guaranteed top 5 radio main-stay this summer.

Katy is POP…she knows her lane. and if we’re honest, all the pop girls try stepping out there lane for at least one era, but Katy has pretty much remained consistent with all of her releases….and honestly, her last album wasn’t ALL bad…just bad timing. Pop needs Katy like this, especially when the other girls are doing the most without producing results….y’all heard this new Miley nonsense? lol!
The last Milye sng with Ronson was great. What are u talking about? And she can sing live better than any girl you guys mentiones here including Katy. That said I agree with the rest. Katy is basic but good for universal pop songs. Sometimes she did too much sugary messs like the current Taylor single. But some other times she relased great pop songs. It’s no ‘Chained To The ‘Rhythm’ and doesn’t pack the punch of previous conceptually it’s familiar Katy goofy flower girly territory. I would rather Katy than Taylor Stift anyday and this is 1000 times better than that ‘Me’ foetus mess ??♂️
Chained to the Rhytm is one of her best singles. Thanks to Sia who made the song though. But I truly enjoy listening to that one.
