It’s official! ‘Making The Band’ will be returning to MTV.
Full story below…
Diddy confirmed the news moments ago via an IGTV video.
The news comes almost a week after both he and the cable network teased a revival of the talent search, which – during its initial run – birthed the careers of Danity Kane, Day26, and Da Band.
In the announcement clip, Diddy revealed that a global casting call begins today across all major social media platforms. The end goal? To discover the next big superstar act.
Hopefuls are to use the #MTBCasting hashtag to submit their entries.
The show will make its debut on MTV in 2020.
Speking on the series’ return, Nina L. Diaz, MTV’s President of Entertainment said in a statement:
“We couldn’t be happier to welcome back the incomparable Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs to his rightful home at MTV. “’Making the Band’ was ahead of its time and the ultimate disruptor – fans everywhere have been clamoring for a return and they are in for the biggest, most iconic season yet.”
While some may scoff at the thought of “yet another reboot,” we’re at the very least keen to give this a chance.
The original MTB run was all sorts of iconic and was very much the warts-and-all format we favor when it comes to showcasing how the music industry truly works.
It also presents the opportunity for Diddy to stage a do-over and dispel the notion that he doesn’t do right by his acts by actually…doing right by his acts. [Because that initial implosion of Danity Kane wasn’t only their fault. We’ll leave it at that]
We also have so many questions: will Ms. Boom-Kack Laurieann Gibson be back? Which label will the act be signed to? Any involvement from ‘Making The Band’ alumni? Roll on 2020!
