Shaggy Steps Away From Rihanna Album

Published: Saturday 11th Jan 2020 by David

Shaggy has revealed that he politely stepped away from Rihanna‘s next album because he felt he was being forced to audition for a spot on the set.

Full story below…

Rihanna has been working with her friends at Roc Nation to create an album which best reflects her world view as it is today following the release of ‘ANTI.’

Shaggy, the iconic musician whose art helped to push Caribbean music to global heights, has now revealed that he is no longer part of the journey because he felt he was being asked to prove himself to the star and her crew of creatives.

He told the Daily Star

They approached me for the Rihanna project, yeah. There’s a lot of great people involved but for me I didn’t need to audition to be on the record, I’ll leave that to younger guys. From what I hear it should be good.

Some fans suspect that the some of the material the performer submitted for the album may not have been to Rihanna‘s taste.

Quite interestingly, he wouldn’t be the first veteran to miss out on or step away from an album recorded by a younger artist. For, Phil Collins is said to have submitted tracks he hoped Adele would use for her latest album ’25.’

That man still looks good! Time has served him well.

Agreed! Shaggy is true pioneer when it came to opening the door and making that genre of music become mainstream. He’s been in the game for well over 30 years in the game a feature with Shaggy should have been a given!

Looks like the wait for Rihanna fans getting that album continues ?

    Caribbean sound is huge now

Why does she need a team to tell her what her people like? This is my issue.

Stop trying to chase “hits” and put out music that u like . That’s artistry

    • Haterz Gon‘ Hate January 11, 2020

You are obviously not someone who has followed Rihanna and her management – that is EXACTLY what Rihanna does SOUND CURRENT AND RECORD/CHASE FUTURE HITS.

I don’t blame. That’s SHAGGY! They better put some RESPECK on his name! Lol.

Damn TGJ u guys know how to twist a story.

Rihanna told him to audition, and he refused

How can u tell an iconic grammy winning artist like shaggy to audition to be on ur album, rihanna that is arrogant of u.
    Shaggy opened the doors
U are enjoying success today thanks to people like shaggy and sean paul who brought island/raggea music to the forefront.

    Dumb bìtch.

The writers of the blog are gonna be so good at spreading propaganda.

What does adele have to do with this news article
    Like seriously wtf is this

“For, Phil Collins is said to have submitted tracks he hoped Adele would use for her latest album ’25.’”

Adele didnt tell Phil Collins, an iconic musician to audition to be on her album. Why include this into this story about Rihanna asking an iconic musician like shaggy to audition before he could appear on her album.

Adding irrelevant things into a news story to distract the readers.

Rihanna is arrogant for asking shaggy to audition before he could appear on her album.
Who does that? Audition to be on an album?
    ??

All I can say is Diva moment…smh… now I know why her album taking so damn long coz she has to audition all the music producers….

    • Lias03 January 11, 2020

Umm reading is fundamental key word here is he felt…they didn’t ask for an audition that’s what it felt like. She can run her album the way she wants. I wouldn’t call that being a diva; it is more about owning the sound and music you want to create.

  8. K_man January 11, 2020

Is rihanna and her people wrong for this!? Yes! But at some point I understand Where their coming from because I’m his Hey day he it would be no questions asked. But today if someone wants to work with a music veteran they want to make sure it’s to artist style connects organically on the the other hand doesn’t look desperate… aka Madonna and Migos

    • Clarks0oñ January 11, 2020

      Excuses excuses excuses

U dont tell a veteran to audition to work on ur album.

Rihanna can never say she didnt listen to shaggy when she was younger.
Shaggy was one of the biggest raggea musicians to cross over back in the day

Sean Paul (Rihanna has a song with him)
      Shaggy
      Binnie man (he is homophobic)
Elephant man (rihanna has a song with him)
      Damian Marley

These raggea dudes were huge back then.

Just because they are not hot right now that doesnt mean they dont still have it in them.

Migos never told madonna to audition
Arianna Grande never told chaka khan to audition
Lady gaga never told tony Bennett to audition

      • Kix January 11, 2020

It is Rihanna’s album and she can do whatever she wants to.

      • Here we go again January 11, 2020

You don’t even make music nor are u a music veteran so how would you know the ins and outs?

  9. eric January 11, 2020

No one can guarantee hit music.

  10. Only facts January 11, 2020

Rihanna, we want the album already. This is becoming sloppy. Shouldn’t anyone you’re working with be prohibited from speaking on the project with an NDA? And didn’t another artist producer step away from this album last year? Sigh. I love Rihanna, but something tells me she is an artist who needs a true label, rather than being independent

As he should I love riri too but she should have known better

  12. biancacook January 11, 2020

i mean she is in control of her stuff sooooo if she wants it to be a certain way then hey. just because he’s a vet doesn’t mean he going to come in and do what it is she is trying to do. Im sure she thought it was a good idea and it just wasn’t working for them. he didn’t say he HAD to audition he said he felt like he was. she is caribbean and im sure that she has an idea on what she wants to put out. yall spent years saying ppl do the work for her now she’s a diva cuz now yall know she has some input.

    • Suxmycockiness ? January 11, 2020

      This?? PERIOD!

  13. Lol January 11, 2020

Many may not be aware that Shaggy is still going strong and has released 3 awesome albums on the past 5 years. I like how he has always been and still is a classy gent – no mix up, no beefs, no jail time, no drugs or violence – you, Sir, are a King and a true icon.

She’d already taken a risk trio-ing with Ye and McCartney and look what it did to ANTI. She’s right to wanna hear Shaggy’s parts before accepting them or asking for rewrites. Veteran status shouldn’t immune one from artistic deliberation.
