The Weeknd Makes History As ‘Blinding Lights’ Becomes His 7th #1 Hit on R&B Charts

As we reported hereThe Weeknd is riding high on the Hot 100 with three concurrent top 20 singles – ‘Heartless’ (#13), ‘Blinding Lights’ (#8), and ‘After Hours’ (#20).

Acting as the leading trio of releases from his forthcoming album, ‘After Hours’ (March 20), the cuts are not only seeing him dominate Billboard’s main singles chart but also genre-specific tallies to a historic measure.

More after the jump:

This week ‘Blinding Lights’ replaced Justin Bieber‘s ‘Intentions’ as ruler of the ‘R&B Songs’ chart.  Coming as his 7th trip to its summit, the ascent is accompanied by news the singer (born Abel Tesfaye) has broken the tie with his ‘Live For’ co-star Drake for most #1 hits on the tally.

Established in 2012, the ‘R&B Songs’ chart – not to be confused with the ‘Hot R&B/Hip-Hop’ chart – lists the 25 most popular R&B songs in the United States.  Refreshed weekly, rankings are calculated by a formula comprised of radio airplay counts on Rhythmic and Urban radio stations as well as digital download sales and streaming data.
