The Weeknd Calls On Music Companies To Donate “Big And Public” To #BlackLivesMatter

Published: Tuesday 2nd Jun 2020 by Sam

The Weeknd is using his position as one of Pop’s biggest stars to encourage record labels and streaming services to publicly stand alongside the #BlackLivesMatter movement in the wake George Floyd‘s death.

Full story below…

As reported, the singer donated a colossal $500,000 to Black Lives Matter related causes yesterday.

And he’s gone on record to not only call for industry leading forces to do the same, but to remind them why.

In a brief but poignant social media post, The Weeknd – real name Abel Tesfaye – spotlighted the fact that Black music generates titan-sized profits for corporations; entities he says now ought to give back.

His words below…

To my fellow respected industry partners and execs- no one profits off of black music more than the labels and streaming services. I gave yesterday and I urge you to go big and public with yours this week. It would mean the world to me and the community if you can join us on this

I agree that the black owned only record labels and streaming services to publicly stand alongside the #BlackLivesMatter movement in the wake George Floyd‘s death. It is their problem to fix only.
