Widely acclaimed, the mega-selling LP is renowned for its progressive sound and crucially helped Timberlake shatter the squeaky-clean Pop veneer that had defined his stardom beforehand.

Featuring bops such as ‘SexyBack’ and ‘My Love,’ the project is praised as one of the most resonating efforts of JT’s career and a cornerstone of the mid-00s music scene.

As such, it’s easy to see the appeal in re-engaging with the concept.

Especially coming off 2018’s critically panned ‘Man Of The Woods,’ which spurned a hit tour but little in the way of actual hit material. That and, of course, his ill-advised performance at the Super Bowl that same year.

It begs the question, though. Should he be looking back to move forward? Or would he be better served doing a complete overhaul?

Your thoughts?

In a time when we’re talking more than ever about opportunities to build equity, Tim is more concerned about repairing the platform that JT has used to appropriate black culture.

I know EXACTLY what Prince Timberlake should sound like next! If he follows my wavelength it will be yet another tastemaking era. 🙂

FS/LS was LIT! but idk. whenever an artist tries to ‘recreate’ their prime it usually backfires.

  10. Ropeburn August 5, 2020

It’s never a good idea for an artist to try to recapture the magic of the past. This is about to be very reductive.
