Teyana Taylor Reveals The Reason She Retired

Published: Thursday 29th Apr 2021 by Sam

Teyana Taylor shocked the masses last year when she announced she was retiring from music.

In the time since she’s hinted at the rationale for her decision.

Now, though, she’s addressing it head-on.

Full story below…

Speaking on the Sip ‘N’ Smoke show, the singer/actress/director said:

“At the end of the day, I’m a mom first. A mom, a wife, a woman. And I think for me, I put in a lot of work. I work very, very hard. So, if you feel unheard and unseen—like how I said earlier with my husband. He sees me, he hears me. I take that sh*t serious. Everything that I do. So if you’re my husband, or I’m signed, everybody that I’m aligned with should see me. They should hear me. They should feel me. If you don’t see me, hear me, or feel me, it’s a dub for you.

I felt like the label wasn’t really hearing me and seeing me. I felt underappreciated. So, for my mental health, my mental well-being, for my kids, let me just put this on ice for a little [bit]. It’s not that I retired permanently. It’s more like, I just don’t feel like I want to move another inch for a company.”

While music may be in rearview for now, Taylor has maintained a major presence by way of her acting gigs (see: ‘Coming 2 America’), a huge brand partnership with Pretty Little Thing, and a directing under her Spike Tee alias. So, she’s certainly still booked and busy.

Musically, we’re glad her hiatus feels somewhat temporary. For all the potential she’s shown, we feel there’s more that can still be unlocked.

Her last album “The Album” was so good. I hope she snaps out of it soon. She also has to realize, she’s an artist in a TOTALLY Different era. So yes, you are gonna HAVE to work to be taken different from these microwaveble artist.. Things aren’t like they were about 10 to 15 years ago. And consistency is key. Gotta really get creative in ways to get your music out to the public. And first and foremost, the team has to be willing to risk a lot and invest.

I felt like she called it that because that’s “the album” that was suppose come out that summer when Kanye screwed her over.

Both you are trash for the way you degrade woman on here. Teyana has worked extremely hard to get where she is and she’s only been in the game since 2008. Respect her hustle and grind.

Shocked the masses? TGJ, please, wasn’t nobody checking for her. Which brings me to my next point, what she really meant in that statement was “At the end of the day, I’m a flop first”

She’s very talented. She feels very under appreciated. She’s not a priority at her label.
