Dua Lipa‘s ‘Levitating’ is simply the sleeper hit no one saw coming.
The song’s original edition, and later a Madonna & Missy Elliott-led remix, made little noise on the charts upon their respective summer 2020 introductions (as we reported here), but now – a year after ‘Levitating’ was officially serviced to radio as a single – the Lipa bop is one week shy of holding the record for longest running top 10 female-led hit in the Hot 100’s 63-year history!
More inside:
Seven months after cracking the chart’s top 10 for the first time, ‘Levitating’ is found at #5 on the refreshed tally.
Having collected 32 weeks in the chart region (to date), ‘Levitating’ now ties Leann Rimes‘ 1997 Country megabit, ‘How Do I Live,’ for longest tenure of a female-led song in the top 10. Among all songs, rapper Cardi B is credited as the female record-holder for her feature on the history-making 2018 hit, ‘Girls Like You’ (led by Maroon 5).
Look below to see where both songs stand on the all-time list (as of time reported).

Thanks to ongoing love from radio and streaming (despite a number of platforms opting to cease play of its wildly popular DaBaby-buoyed remix due to his ‘homophobic’ controversy), the ‘Future Nostalgia’ number shows no signs of losing its grip – meaning by this time next week it will likely hold the record as female chart champion.

But the song won’t impact people like LeAnne’s has since its release. Heck, that creep ANTI is still lurking on Billboard Top 200 and, as good as it is, it’s no Come On Over, Falling Into You, or Music Box. Records are fragile nowadays—too easily broken . . .
Agree! Levitating is a cute little dance pop sing-a-long but it’s not culturally innovative. I feel like a lot of these songs nowadays which are breaking records simply do not live up to the hype.
