Hot 100: The Weekend Collects 13th Top 10 Hit with ‘Take My Breath’

Published: Monday 16th Aug 2021 by Rashad

With his new single, ‘Take My Breath,’ Pop megastar The Weekend takes a rung in the Hot 100’s top 10 for the 13th time in his career.

Details inside.

Released August 6 on the wings of a supercharged ad for the Tokyo Olympics (as we reported here), the Max Martin-produced cut – the first taste of The Weeknd’s yet-titled fifth studio album – raced to the top of real-time digital sales and streaming tallies just hours after its unveiling.

Now, with its inaugural sales tracking week behind it, ‘Breath’ has blasted into the Hot 100’s top 10 the very week its predecessor – the #1 smash ‘Save Your Tears’ – exited the chart region.

Premiering at #6, look below to see the figures that boosted ‘Breath’ to a top 10 entry:

  • Streaming: 19.3 million U.S.-based streams
  • Digital Downloads:  18,000 sold
  • Radio Airplay: 30.7 million audience impressions

‘Breath’ brings the GRAMMY winner’s top 10 career total to 13 – a personal record that stems back to 2014 with the #7 peak of his first Arianna Grande-shared hit, ‘Love Me Harder.’

I dig Starboy, Feel It Coming, and Save Your Tears . . . everything before & after is a bore. Wesley Snipes called; he wants his Blade style back. 🔙

WAIT?? The song hasn’t been number one on Itunes since the first 48 hours (its currently number 16). The song isn’t in the top 50 on Apple music or Shazam. For majority of the week the song wasn’t in the top 50 on Spotify (its currently number 15). So how such a high debut on the hot 100???? Some of these artist be paying and selling their souls for these charts.

You know some exec somewhere in Hollywood is walking around with Abel’s babymaking “smoothie” as chapstick . . . or vice versa bcuz this song is a head scratcher.

The song is not bad but I was expecting a hard hitting club record with a lot of synths, based on the original snippet. Basically he released a disco song.

@True Tea: we wanted him to take some media time off on a high note after last year’s success. But he decided to Ariana Grande us with back to back releases. Unlike him, Ariana has a biological clock ticking and will sooner rather than later make a family. What’s his rationale in looking like Blade & sounding like BeeGees? Can’t even call this a comeback tune
