Jesy Nelson is pounding the promotional pavement in support of her debut solo single ‘Boyz’ featuring Nicki Minaj.
Ahead of the track’s arrival this Friday (October 8), the 30-year-old is opening up about how she’s approaching her return to the spotlight.
As widely reported, Nelson announced her departure from Little Mix last December and she makes clear in a new digital issue of Glamour Magazine that her outlook on herself is different after doing work from the inside out.
Her words below…
Addressing her aesthetic, Nelson said:
“I started using makeup and hair to mask who I genuinely was because I got slated for my face and my weight and how I looked. I did everything I could to not be myself. I tried ridiculous diets to lose weight. I changed my hair all the time. I got lip fillers. I did everything I could to be this girl people would accept.”
As for the changes, she shared:
“I’m not there yet, but I’m getting there. I don’t wear corsets, I stopped the lip fillers. I’m still wearing makeup, but nowhere near as much as I used to. My body confidence has improved so much. I love body positive influencers like my friend (model and body diversity advocate) Felicity Hayward. She just oozes confidence and it is gorgeous to see and be around.”

Girl bye, we so over you and your prolonged victim game. You been thirst trapping and showing skin since little mix. You just wanted all the limelight for yourself , rather than having to split it with three other girls…like just say that…. Milking this insecurity sh*t for everything it’s worth .. girl no, just no. We really don’t care. The song will flop outside of the UK. Who will she blame when that happens? Doesn’t she realize Nicki won’t get radio play or priority playlisting? Stupid

The sad thing is a lot of the scrutiny led her to have severe BDD, less than a year kinda away from the spotlight isn’t enough to lay those demons to bed.
I reckon she needed another few months away not working on music just focusing on her mental well-being and how she treats herself.
A lot of the interviews she’s partaking in have came across very contradictory in regards to what she had to wear in little mix, make up that she used to wear, the music when I don’t think much has changed as the first image from boyzzz we saw was her in a bikini the above photo shoot is loads of makeup and she’s saying she toned it down.
I wish her the best but I think she needed a little more time for her own growth as I’m still seeing the same Jesy that was in Little Mix.
