Nearly 6 years have separated fans of Usher from his last solo studio album, 2016’s ‘Hard II Love,’ but – if a recent interview from the R&B veteran is anything to judge by – the wait for its highly anticipated follow-up is coming to a close very soon.
More inside:
Hot on the promo trail in support of the July 15 unveiling of his forthcoming Vegas residency, the GRAMMY winner has launched a promotional onslaught to spread news of the show’s arrival.
Among his recent stops was a chat with ‘PEOPLE‘ magazine.
There, he not only dished on his second Sin City stint, but also lifted the lid on details about new music.
“By the time we are live in July, you will have heard new music,” he said. “My plan is to get back to servicing music the way that we did before.”
Although he avoided giving a specific release date, he did confirm the new tune’s parent project would be dropping this year as well after being delayed due to the global health crisis.
“….while we have been in quarantine, my ideas changed. I actually learned new things. I was able to really be reflective and find out what things matter and really have some true, honest, deep conversations with people and myself, to take some ownership of some of where my life has gone and some of the things that I’ve come through. It is honest,” he said. “So, yeah, I’m going to release an album this year, hopefully, but now it’s just a matter of the timing, and what the name of the album is and all of that.”
Rumor has it the LP – once slated for a 2020 release – was originally titled ‘Confessions 2‘ and was designed to act as a conceptual sequel to his Diamond-selling 2004 album, ‘Confessions.’
The new music announcement comes just weeks after Ush revealed he has his eye on occupying the headlining slot of next year’s Super Bowl Halftime Show. Click here to read more about that.
Usher is literally approaching 30 years since his debut single and is now in the forth decade of his career. With over 160 million PURE records sold worldwide, 9 Hot 100 number one’s, 13 R&B and Hip-hop number one’s and 15 R&B chart number one’s. Usher HAS NOTHING PROVE.
This!
Usher’s My Way album is pitch perfect R&B/Pop from beginning to end. 💯 I remember the day I bought it. He was a legend after first listen! He will always be one of the best selling male artists period. 😎
THANK YOU! AN R&B king 👑
His album been delayed more than Monica, Normani and Saweetie combined lmfao
You’re comparing a legend and icon in Usher to new artist that haven’t done anything?? Usher and Monica don’t have to ever release an album again and their legacy’s would still be set. LOL STFU
Dude, its not 2001. drop that s*** and your fans are going to buy it. You dont need a long promo run, cause you wont gain any new fans anyway…
