New Video: Doja Cat – ‘Vegas’ [‘Elvis’ Movie Soundtrack]

Published: Friday 3rd Jun 2022 by Sam

Doja Cat serves up vivacious in the video for her new single ‘Vegas.’

The hard-hitting track is lifted from the soundtrack for Baz Luhrmann’s ‘Elvis’ Presley biopic and samples ‘Hound Dog’ by the King of Rock N’ Roll.

With the film, which is due on June 24, shining a spotlight on how Black music and musicians shaped the sound of the legend, Doja delivers a visual that salutes this with a contemporary kick.

Check it out after the jump…

Doja delivers once again.

Even when skewing more subdued, she makes for an arresting presence visually and elevates the already solid track with her potency as a performer.

    My initial thoughts:
    1) She looks full black.
    2) Love the black exploitation and exaltation.
    3) Unlike some other female rappers, i believe she writes 100% of her rhymes.

I thought the video might change my opinion, but something about the song still turns my attention off and makes me not want to hear anymore. Too repetitive?

Umm this is definitely a Janet Jackson Got Til It’s Gone rip off. Surprised you guys didn’t catch it 💅

My girl Ciara should’ve came this hard! Imagine the RAVE reviews she would have gotten smh.

Kudos to you Doja! Can’t say I’m surprised.

Production wise…this track is NOTHING special & sound like the 2010’s R&B/Hip-Hop wave yet you guys say Ciara’s music is dated, lol

Some of Doja Cat’s Indie music was actually more innovated. Her MAINSTREAM music is trendy (Tik-Tok) but it lacks replay value for me.

For example the “Vegas” sample use here reminds of Kayne’s “Gold Digger” w/ Ray Charles,….which has more replay value for me.

For some reason I don’t want to click on this song. Probably because of Elvis? Idk lol
