Ne-Yo may have collected criticaly acclaim aplenty for his latest album, the July 15-released ‘Self Explanatory,’ but the LP hasn’t been able to boast that same success commercially.
Entering the Billboard 200 at #184 this week, the project marks his first studio effort to debut outside of the top 40 on the tally.
Undeterred by the slow start, the singer-songwriter (born Shaffer Smith) is pressing forward with showcasing more of the tunes found aboard ‘Self Explanatory.’ Having already won over R&B lovers with the set’s housed cuts ‘You Got the Body,’ ‘U 2 Luv,’ ‘Don’t Love Me,’ and ‘Stay Down,’ the GRAMMY winner is following those gems with a visual for the new song ‘Handle Me Gently.’
Look inside to see the clip, which acts as a behind-the-scenes glimpse of sorts showing how the 42-year-old makes musical magic in the studio.
Your thoughts?
I knew this would be a single! Favorite song off this incredible R&B album! Neyo never disappoints.
The album is trash…..
This song is fire!!!!!
Best of the album (sound is really reminiscing of classic r&b bops – sth by new edition or the boy bands era).
Neyo’s pen game remains wonderful: when it’s on, it’s on!!
Hopefully radio will pick this one up
Best song on the album by mile. Great choice.
The album is boring af. He needs to team up with Stargate again seriously 💅🏾
I think he missed the chance to create a more interesting album with more of this old school new jack swing sound. He should’ve got the message when none of the four SE singles made the Hot 100 like “U 2 Luv”.
