Tory Lanez Talks Being “Blackballed” After Megan Thee Stallion Drama, Dodges August Alsina Fight Questions, & More on ‘Breakfast Club’

Tory Lanez may have seen the last two years of his career dominate headlines more for personal and legal drama than his professional endeavors, but that hasn’t stopped the Canadian rapper from trying to get the ears of the masses on his music.

Hot on the promo trail in support of the September 30 release of his new album, ‘Sorry 4 What,’ Lanez drove over to ‘The Breakfast Club’ Thursday morning (September 29) to dish with the radio show’s resident hosts about the project and other recent happenings.

But when the conversation tipped over to more controversial topics, Lanez steered it back to his music – ultimately refusing to talk about his headline-grabbing (alleged) altercation with singer August Alsina that left the “entangled” star bruised and bloody.

Similarly, when quizzed about his ongoing legal spat with Megan Thee Stallion over reports he shot her in the foot, Tory pressed back to redirect the focus of the discussion on his forthcoming LP.

An awkward watch for sure, look inside to see highlights from the nearly hourlong chat.

When DJ Envy mentioned Alsina, Tory (born Daystar Peterson) quickly shut it down.

“I’m just here for the album and positivity,” he shared. “I’m always here to answer all the questions and stuff…everything that’s been going on in my life and the things going on around me, I just try to keep positive. No disrespect, I’m just not here to talk about it.”

After Angela Yee stepped in to ask if the incident caused him to be put back on the radar of the LAPD, Tory doubled down on refusing to address the August drama.

“Again, I couldn’t tell you, don’t know,” Tory answered. “Like I said, I’m just here for the album and positivity.”

Switching gears to talk about Megan, Peterson spoke a bit more openly than he did about August but still kept his answers somewhat ambiguous.

“There’s always a time when a story will come out about Tory Lanez and the narrative will be wild. Ya’ll got to understand, as much I would like to tell ya’ll the narrative, I can’t. I’m not allowed to. I’m in an open case,” Lanez explained.

He did reveal, however, that the incident led to him being blackballed in the industry as a number of web sites and radio stations refuse to feature his music.  As if that wasn’t enough, labels stopped their artists from collaborating with him, award shows refused to nominate his work, tours stopped sponsoring performances, and brands pulled endorsement deals.

“I know that a lot of people’s opinions have changed, up and down, about me. It’s not of me to be a judge or be playing God’s role in judging people. I forgive everybody. I don’t forget, but I forgive.”

All-in-all, the rapper suggests the lack of attention hasn’t gotten in the way of his hustle – even suggesting that him “doing double the volume [output]” of his fellow artists has delivered comparable success.

“They’re doing it through an algorithmic playlist, but I’m getting these numbers now organically,” he said of the competition. “I got 16 million monthly listeners on Spotify. When I’m looking at other artists – and I’m talking about popping artists – they don’t have the same.”

That’s not all he said. Click PLAY on the video above to watch the interview in full.
