Rolling Stone & LA Times Name Beyonce’s ‘Renaissance’ As Best Album of 2022

Published: Sunday 4th Dec 2022 by Rashad

Beyonce‘s seventh solo studio album, ‘Renaissance,’ continues to prove itself the gift that keeps on giving.

Released in July to historic measure, the set has since been marked a standout among the year’s releases commercially and critically – an eminence that was reiterated last month when the Recording Academy announced the diva led the nominations tally for the 2023 GRAMMYs.

Further proof of the laud the LP is courting comes thanks to year-end lists from some of the industry’s biggest publications and tastemakers.

After ‘TIME‘ magazine named the opus the best female album of the year (as we reported here), ‘Rolling Stone’ agreed – naming it the best album of the year overall in its ‘100 Best Albums of 2022’ list published Thursday (December 1).

Besting some of the year’s top sellers (Taylor Swift‘s ‘Midnights,’ Harry Styles’ ‘Harry’s House,’ Bad Bunny‘s ‘Un Verano Sin Ti,’ and more, ‘RS’ branded Bey’s latest LP as “the musical highlight of the year.”

“The album finds her unabashedly celebrating Black pleasure in all its multitudes and illustrates that theme with dozens of sampled voices and sounds, esteemed guests (Grace Jones!), and echoes to global club styles past and present,” the mag said before referring to ‘Renaissance’ as ‘her thrilling best.’

They weren’t the only ones singing the Queen’s praises, however.

On Sunday (December 4), the LA Times took to press to reveal its 20 best albums of 2022.  Atop the list was none other than Beyonce.

Calling the ‘Break My Soul’-led project a “loving tribute to dance music’s Black and queer pioneers,” the LA Times placed ‘Renaissance’ in front of some of 2022’s most acclaimed sets including Bunny’s, Swift’s, Styles’, Wizkid‘s ‘More Love, Less Ego,’ Kendrick Lamar‘s ‘Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers,’ The Weeknd‘s ‘Dawn FM,’ and more.

What’s more, they also listed ‘Break’ as the year’s best song.

    Incoming haters in 5, 4, 3, 2……

And all she did was an Instagram post. The General Public and fans did the rest…. Also before y’all start with the overused “overrated” comments… at this point how is she overrated? Taylor is the one overrated

Lol this hilarious wasn’t even ground breaking of an album. Beyonce just copied and paste from other songs and the them of the album. I’ve heard better.

Too bad the best of her career is copy and pasting from other artists. It’s not original.

I agree with this. The songs on there give meaning like “you wont break my soul” i mean, who tf cant relate to that?? Its literally uplifting and a bop at the same time. On the contrary songs like “anti-hero” are just bland, colorless dumb and give less meaning to reality

Y’all soooo “HEATED” in these comments. Y’all ever notice the ones that always hate be knowing every song, every single, every album sale, every track that was sampled…. It’s astonishing for them to know so much but hate her just as equal. Keep watching and checking haters you’re part of the reason she keeps winning! 😂😂😂😂

In terms of buzz and mass appeal, Renaissance gets the nod. But Mr. Morale was the more lyrically and sonically exciting release. I was in the clubs when all the songs B sampled were “hot” so there wasn’t much “newness” IMO. But, she will most likely win big come actual award season…

The album was alright. It had a few standouts but the rest was forgettable for me. Anything Beyonce does will be worshipped at this point. She didn’t even bother promoting the album.
