Saweetie Talks Wanting To Be a Singer, Dropping Christmas & Latin Music, & Eyeing Joint LP with Dreezy

Published: Sunday 4th Dec 2022 by Rashad

After suffering ridicule for the commercial nonperformance of her latest effort, ‘The Single Life‘ (as we reported here), ‘Back to the Streets’ beauty Saweetie is headed back to the lab to quickly crank out its follow-up.

As her fans (affectionately called the #ICYGang) already know, the Rap diva has completed her serially delayed debut album, ‘Pretty B*tch Music,’ but ‘Single Life’ was meant to tide them over until other logistics were worked out with the LP.

Some of those “logistics” include securing features, mixing tracks , and more.

During the promo run for ‘Single Life’ the GRAMMY nominee also opened up about a number of upcoming projects she has in the works like doing more singing, releasing Christmas music, experimenting with collaborations with Latin artists, and so much more.

Not defeated by the flack for the recently-released EP, look inside to hear Saweetie share about what her sights are on.

During a visit to ‘The Bootleg Kev Podcast,’ the rapstress (born Diamonte Harper) not only discussed her latest project but also walked down memory lane to dish about her rise to fame, brand endorsements, GRAMMY nominations, and the many career wins that led to her being crowned ‘Queen of the Bay.’

ON BEING CALLED ‘QUEEN OF THE BAY’:

“I don’t want to self-proclaim the ‘Queen statement,’ but when I’m in certain cities or certain areas they’ll just call me this and call me that. I’ve been called the ‘Queen of California’ and many queen things. It’s not something I’m trying to title, that’s why I had another voice say it on my [‘Single Life’] project. I don’t like it when people self-proclaim.”

ON WANTING TO DO A JOINT ALBUM WITH DREEZY:

“I would do a joint album with Dreezy,” she started before later relaying, “I’ve been wanting to collaborate with another woman and I really like Dreezy.”

She stopped by ‘The Cruz Show’ to plug the new project as well, but also lifted the lid on holiday music in the works.

“I’m gonna come with a little something, something for ICY season,” she said at the 1:50 mark on the video above.

At writing, she’s not disclosed any other details about the forthcoming Christmas tune (like title, release date, producer, etc.).

The promo grind didn’t stop with ‘The Cruz Show’ and ‘Bootleg Kev,’ however.

Taking to Power 106 FM, Harper waxed honest about a number of aspects of her personal life and career including the challenges of growing up biracial, wanting to do Latin music, and more.

ON WANTING TO BE A SINGER:

“I’ve always wanted to be a singer since I was like a little girl. I wanted to be like a Disney princess,” she shared at the video’s 4:40 mark before later adding she doesn’t anticipate being nervous when it’s time to flex her vocal skills live.

ON COLLABORATING WITH LATIN ARTISTS:

“I haven’t been able to get into the studio with the Latin artists I do want to work with, but I do have a couple on my wishlist.”

ON GROWING UP BIRACIAL:

“Being a mixed girl was just hella confusing. It was just like the Filipino girls were like, ‘you ain’t Filipino; look at your hair. It’s too curly,” she started. “The Black girls were like, ‘you too light; you ain’t Black.’ I was kind of like disowned from both sides. So, I never felt like I belonged anywhere except with my family.”
