Monica sent her diehard fans into a frenzy June 30 when she dropped her latest single, ‘Letters,’ with little warning.
Believed to be the latest taste of new music from the GRAMMY winner’s serially delayed 9th studio album ‘Trenches,’ ‘Letters’ was penciled atop real-time sales tallies just 24 hours after its inaugural listing on streaming and digital download platforms – a reign it enjoyed well into the week.
As a result, its weeklong commercial performance saw the Ciara, Alicia Renee Williams, and Brian “Killah B” Bates-penned tune enter the updated Billboard R&B sales chart as the week’s top premiere.

Bolstered by a sizzling music video starring rapper The Game, the appearance marks Mo’s first time on this hitlist since the Lil Baby-assisted ‘Trenches‘ peaked at #2 in 2020.
And while the handsome sales showing wasn’t enough to help ‘Letters’ be written inside the Hot 100, the top 15 debut on the R&B chart marks a promising start for the Tasha Catour-produced cut that may see an even better showing on other Billboard rankings once streaming and radio attention pick up.

I’m really hoping this isn’t the best she has to offer from the album after all this time we’ve been waiting. It’s too much trap soul, and that’s not even the sound she’s most popular for.
Nah, she’s previewed some material over the years. She’s worked with jermaine, & Missy so I’m sure she has a lot more to offer.
Waste of a post. Judging by the chart position she prolly sold a good 13 copies. Not her being outsold by 50 year old songs. 😬 This should be a wake up call for Monica to stop releasing mid music. Letters is nowhere to be found in the iTunes top 50.
