Hot 100: Taylor Swift Ties Whitney Houston’s #1s Record With Historic Debut of ‘1989 (TV)’ Hit ‘Is it Over Now’

Published: Monday 6th Nov 2023 by Rashad

Just a day after learning her most highly anticipated album re-record, ‘1989 (TV),’ opened atop the Billboard 200 with the biggest first-week sales of her carer to date, Taylor Swift is seeing tunes from the project break records aboard the Hot 100 as well.

See how inside.

Printed Monday (November 6), the refreshed Billboard Hot 100 sees Swift occupying 8 of its top 10 positions with ‘Is It Over Now’ leading the pack.

Here are the numbers that powered the latter’s placement at the hitlist’s pinnacle.

  • Streams: 32 million U.S.-based streams
  • Radio airplay: 4.7 million audience impressions
  • Sales: 5,000 digital downloads

The sixth #1 debut of her career, ‘Over Now’ comes as the 1,159th song to top the Hot 100 over the chart’s 65-year history (and only the 73rd to premiere in the top spot).

Her 11th overall chart-topper, the Jack Antonoff-produced tune moves Taylor up on the all-time list of women with the most Hot 100 #1s.

Tied with Janet Jackson just weeks ago when the 2019 smash, ‘Cruel Summer,’ ascended to the top, now Swift has matched the record of late Pop icon Whitney Houston.

Most Billboard Hot 100 #1s of All Time:

20, The Beatles

19, Mariah Carey

14, Rihanna

13, Drake

13, Michael Jackson

12, Madonna

12, The Supremes

11, Whitney Houston

11, Taylor Swift

10, Janet Jackson

10, Stevie Wonder

With the inclusion of ‘Over Now,’ Swift – thanks to ‘Midnights‘ hit ‘Anti-Hero‘ and ‘Summer’ – becomes the first woman to top the Hot 100 with 3 different songs from 3 distinct albums in a single year.

As if that’s not enough to boast, she now owns 49 cumulative top 10 hits – extending her record for most among women. Among all acts, only Drake has more (76).

Just imagine if they had streaming back in the 80s-90s-00s and album cuts could chart like they all do now on release week. Ridiculous
