‘Neighbors Know My Name’ crooner Trey Songz has seemingly seen his name mentioned more in court documents than on Billboard charts as of late, but now – thanks to a federal judge – the embattled star has scored a contextual win in the former arena.
Despite video evidence to support her, a woman (who identified as “Jane Doe”) had her claim of sexual assault tossed by the courts recently due to the age of the incident.
Doe claimed Trey humiliated her when he pulled down her bikini top at a party and exposed her breast without consent in 2013. She also named music executive Kevin Liles and Atlantic Records in the case for allegedly enabling Songz’s actions and failing to act despite having knowledge of it (and other reported) actions against women.
The R&B star’s legal team hit back with a motion to dismiss the case since the lawsuit was filed past the statute of limitations which the judge agreed to by acknowledging Jane had missed California’s ten-year window to file.
As of time reported, the 38-year-old has not responded to the news of this case’s dismissal (which stands as one of multiple suits alleging physical and/or sexual assault pending against him).
In November 2022, Trey had an unrelated $20 million sexual assault lawsuit dismissed due to expired statute of limitations.
