The Pop chart-topper stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live and revealed that she is exiting the ABC show after seven seasons on the judging panel.
Perry, who boarded the talent search upon its 2018 revival on the network (following its end on Fox), said of her decision to depart:
“Well, you know, this fall, this September, I’m going to be doing this huge music festival in Brazil called Rock in Rio. It’s really exciting. It’s a big deal for people all over the world, especially my Brazilian fans. So I think this will probably be my last season for Idol.”
She went on to add:
“I love Idol so much. It’s connected me with the heart of America. But I need to feel that pulse of my own beat.”
The singer, who has confirmed that she is working on a comeback album, starred on Idol alongside Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan.
