Already penciled in Billboard history books for her international breakout hit, ‘Water,’ rising singer Tyla can now boast being in the Recording Academy’s record logs as well thanks to a surprise win on Sunday (February 4).
After watching her chart-topping hit ‘Water‘ nab the first GRAMMY nomination of her career, Tyla stunned viewers of the 2024 ceremony when she took home the award for Best African Music Performance – defeating big names like ASAKE & Olamide. Burna Boy, Davido, and Ayra Starr for the honor.
With the win the 22-year-old made history as she’s the first-ever to collect the trophy (which was initiated in 2023).
The news comes just a month before Tyla’s eponymous debut album is set to hit digital shelves.
