Ariana Grande Drops ‘We Can’t Be Friends (String Version)’ & Behind the Scenes Video As Song Paces Toward #1 on Hot 100

Published: Wednesday 13th Mar 2024 by Rashad

Ariana Grande may be well on her way to having 2024’s biggest first-week sales thanks to the impressive figures attached to her March 8-released studio album, ‘Eternal Sunshine,’ but the Billboard 200 won’t be the only place her name is glowing as ‘We Can’t Be Friends‘ – the LP’s latest single – is on pace to top next week’s Hot 100.

Already a fan favorite from its parent project, interest in the Max Martin-produced cut skyrocketed over the weekend thanks to Grande’s soaring debut live performance during a stint on ‘SNL on Saturday (March 9).

Before that, the GRAMMY winner lifted the lid on her tribute to Jim Carrey‘s 2004 film ‘Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind‘ for the tune’s official music video.

Now, her bid to ensure ‘Friends’ lands atop the updated Hot 100 comes courtesy of three new versions: string, a capella, and instrumental.

The same day Ariana lifted new versions of ‘Friends’ (March 13), the Pop diva took to her official Instagram handle to share a behind the scenes look at the creation of its official music video starring EMMY-winning actor Evan Peters.

“This video is our own short version of the ‘Eternal Sunshine’ movie because we felt like that was the perfect thing,” Grande said while on set. “Both of the characters end up discontinuing the cycle of their toxic pattern.”
