Ice Spice is leaving few stones unturned in promotion of her long-awaited debut album, ‘Y2K,’ but is it helping?
In the 2 years since bursting onto the charts with her viral hit ‘Munch (Feelin’ U),’ Spice (born Isis Gaston) has been a leading lady on the Rap scene – getting thumbs up from some of the genre’s biggest names (Taylor Swift, Nicki Minaj) while winning over legions of new fans in the process.
The momentum of multiple hit singles seemed to be the perfect springboard for her July 26-released debut album, ‘Y2K,’ bolstered by the Hot 100-charting smashes ‘Think U the Sh*t (Fart)‘ and ‘Did It First.’
Yet, despite boasting supporting appearances in high-profile publications like ‘Rolling Stone‘ to rocking the stages of the BET Awards and ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon‘ (as seen above), industry analysts have already revealed the project will likely miss the top 20 upon its debut on next week’s Billboard 200.
Ice Spice’s ‘Y2K’
First-Week Sales (SPS): Y2K<27,000 units
Billboard 200 Debut: Y2K<#20
If the projection listed above comes true it will mark the lowest first-week sales of any major female Rap body of work released over the last year.
Look below to see how ‘Y2K’ is set to stack up against the competition.
First-Week Sales of Female Rapper Projects
Released July 2023 – July 2024
Nicki Minaj’s ‘Pink Friday 2‘: 228,000
Doja Cat’s ‘Scarlet‘: 72,000
Megan Thee Stallion’s ‘Megan‘: 64,000
GloRilla’s ‘Ehhthang‘: 33,000
JT’s ‘City Cinderella‘: 28,000
There’s always the chance ‘Y2K’ will follow the trajectory of Spice’s debut mixtape ‘Like..?’ which debuted at #37 (15,000 sold first-week) on the Billboard 200 to later vault to #15 thanks to aggressive promotion and a deluxe edition.
With the ‘Y2K World Tour‘ loading, it’s promising that the album’s first-week figures won’t tell it’s full story.
Not surprised. Aint enough twerkin’ in the world that could save this talentless h$e. from flopping like Free Willy.
She will be forgotten within 2 more years just like Sweet and SOUR…whoops, i mean Saweetie 🤭
Like many of her contemporaries, Ice Spice is not and has never been a rapper or an artist. She’s a manufactured made for tv moment that has long passed. It’s time for all involved to move on. There’s no more cash in that cow.
Ice done melted lmaooo flop
Still doing better than flop mani’s poopamine #91. Mark my word💅🏻
Is normani a rapper…you barbs are haters… miss ling ling you barbs are so gross. Yall hate on normani for no reason.
Nicki is the only real rapper on the list. The others belong on p o r n hub.
So after dragging Latto for responding to her “just a song” and “little moment” all she can do is repeatedly perform this trash which has no longevity. The fact she’ll chart top 20 is a miracle in itself.
