From Prince to Jennifer Hudson, Barbra Streisand, Brandy, Celine Dion, Mariah Carey, and many more, Beyonce has had over 20 years worth of praises for her soaring vocal performances from some of music’s most celebrated vocalists.
Most recently, ‘Wicked‘ star Cynthia Erivo added her name to the list.

Traipsing the promo trail for her latest album ‘‘I Forgive You,‘ Erivo to our friends at Entertainment Weekly (EW) to dish on her favorite vocal performances of all time.
And though her laud of Sisqo‘s risque 2000 tune ‘Thong Song‘ is what garnered the most viral attention, the GRAMMY, TONY, and EMMY-winning star didn’t heap any shortage of praise on powerhouses like Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin, Luther Vandross, and Beyonce.
For the latter, she pointed to the diva’s performance of ‘Resentment‘ from the 2014 ‘On the Run Tour’ with JAY-Z.
“It’s so emotive; it’s full of emotion. It’s an innate quality of storytelling what she’s doing,” Erivo said of Beyonce’s performance. “I’m a purist for melody; if the melody’s good, just sing the melody. And, she’s just singing the melody.”
Beyond the ‘Resentment’ showing itself, Cynthia had high praise for Bey in general.
“I think she’s one of the most skilled vocalists of our time, and it’s just lovely to hear when it’s just her. I love it. It’s very very good,” the ‘Wicked’ star relayed.

skilled vocalists of our time? Definitely
But she still doesn’t have solo classics like Whitney Houston, MC, Alicia keys (first album), Toni Braxton, Sade, Aaliyah.
Her classics belong to DC and they are amazing!
Now she’s making technically good songs the production is great but they lack artistic authenticity, authenticity in general, character and true human soul.
The Beyonce of DC was the 💩. now she’s an award oriented programming machine that lacks the human soul.
Youre just giving pure subjectivity here. Those characteristics are what you deem a classic. Not what is a classic is. Some of those factors that you deem she lacks are debatable as again they are subjective. So youre not talking facts here, but instead giving your opinion that derives from your experiences as an individual.
If we were to say a classic is music that crosses demographics, generations and time being embraced almost by consensus as good music both critically and in open, public conversation then that is a better definition.
Beyonces classics would be Crazy in Love, Irreplaceable, Halo and Love on Top
Whitneys would be I will always love you, I wanna dance with somebody, Greatest Love of All, Saving All My Love For You and I Have Nothing
Alicia Keys would be Fallin, You dont know my name, If I aint got you and No one.
Not our personal fave songs that touch us as rnb fans, but songs which cross boundaries of race, age and time achieving widespread acceptance as straight up good music by many.
It is subjective but most would agree that Beyonce doesn’t have any classics. I can’t think of one song from her that has captured the emotions of an entire generation or defines a moment in time.
I totally agree with @Damn and @Trew 💯
Beyoncé doesn’t have a single song that can be considered a classic, it doesn’t mean her music is bad it’s just not on the level of a classic song.
S = Classics =
Alicia Keys; Fallin, a woman’s worth
Whitney; I will always love you, I wanna dance with somebody.
Christina Aguilera; Beautiful
Cariah Carey; emotions, hero, we belong together
Toni Braxton, Un-Break My Heart
Sade; Smooth Operator, no ordinary love
Aaliyah; Rock The Boat, Back & Forth, one in a million
Brandy; the boy is mine, i wanna be down, have you ever
Destiny’s Child ; survivor, say my name
A = Pink; who knew, don’t let me get me
B = beyonce; crazy in love, halo, irreplaceable.
C …..

***Mariah Carey
LOL
This entire thread is filled with DELUSIONS., Rock the boat & Fallin are no more classics than a random Beyoncé’ hit like BABY BOY.
DANGEROUSLY IN LOVE
ME MYSELF AND I
LOVE ON TOP
CRAZY IN LOVE
SINGLE LADIES
IRREPLACEABLE
HALO
Are all classic.
Just because Beyoncé knows how to be a POP and r&b star, unlike the others, doesn’t mean she’s without a classic
Mary J Blige
Marys an emotive singer but not a technically skilled one. Thats one of the reasons why by and large she has lost her voice. The Strength of a Woman era was the last time Mary had a solid voice. Now its a whole world of struggle. When you have the technique you can sustain into your twilight years. Look at Chaka Khans recent Tiny Desk. Theres like 20 years difference between her and Mary.
I agree. Mary’s approach to singing ruined her voice. The Clark Sisters are a great example of how skill and technique can preserve your voice.
You people are lying and jealous of Mary J Blige
even Ciara has better vocal than that old ha g mary J
Stfu, skeleton wendigo! You don’t know nothing about what is real vocalist.
Agreed. Her raw power just isn’t impressive like Whitney or even j hud. Neither is her tone and accuracy on jasmine or brandy level. But she does kno what she’s doing
Clearly!! She’s the QUEEN.
Her voice grates my nerves
Mariah Dangerous is a tragic flop of the decade.

Repeating it doesn’t making it true.

I Think Cynthia Erivo Is the G.O.A.T✝🦄🌈💖
