Following the announcement that Ye will headline this year’s Wireless Festival in the U.K., several major sponsors have reportedly pulled their support from the event.
Heavy-hitters, including PayPal, Pepsi, and Rockstar Energy, have all backed away, signaling that the business world may not be as quick to forgive.
While public perception surrounding Ye appeared to be shifting after his latest apology, especially after he sold out both nights of his Los Angeles stops, it’s clear that some of the festival’s biggest financial backers are still distancing themselves from the rapper in the wake of his hateful remarks targeting the Jewish and Black communities.
The backlash has even reached the political arena. U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer was among those to publicly condemn the booking, saying:
“It is deeply concerning that Kanye West has been booked to perform at Wireless despite his previous antisemitic remarks and celebration of Nazism.”
Despite Ye’s recent sold-out performances in Los Angeles, the growing list of sponsors pulling out makes it clear that the apology has not erased the damage caused by his past hate speech.
