Linda Perry Defends Nicki Minaj Amid MAGA Backlash: “I’m Not Judging Her” for Her Bad Judgment

Linda Perry is speaking out about Nicki Minaj and the backlash surrounding the rapper’s MAGA affiliations, and she’s showing empathy rather than judgment.

Full story below.

During a recent conversation on the ‘Pop Shop‘ podcast, Perry shared she believes Nicki’s political support may have come from a personal place – even suggesting the rapper could have been trying to help loved ones or navigate difficult situations behind the scenes.

Linda – the writer behind big hits for Christina Aguilera, P!nk, Gwen Stefani, and more – explained that when people are focused on protecting family or close friends they sometimes fail to fully see the bigger consequences of their actions.

She shared:

“It seems that she wanted something from The Office and was trying to maybe help herself, a friend, a boyfriend, whatever. And was promised something and felt that it was worth the risk – the take – you know. If my best friend or someone in my family needed something and I had to go begging and grovelling to somebody to get it to happen, I probably would’ve made a bad judgement as well. Because sometimes when we’re thinking about loved ones or trying to get out of a situation, we’re not thinking clearly. So I’m not judging Nicki for what happened, what she did. I think she’s judging herself enough and she’s suffering by her own decision. I don’t think we need to go ahead and make her feel worse than she probably already does.

The comments come months after Perry and Minaj unexpectedly went viral together thanks to a mashup created by DJ Auxlord, blending the writer’s classic 4 Non Blondes hit ‘What’s Up?’ with Nicki’s ‘Beez in the Trap.’

The mashup exploded across TikTok, racking up millions of views and even inspiring dances from White House officials online.

Meanwhile, Nicki’s support for former President Donald Trump continues to spark conversation.

The rapper has recently doubled down on her political stance while also calling out figures like Barack Obama and Jay-Z in the process.
