The multihyphenate performer also hosted the annual awards show, which honors achievements in theater. She initially appeared on wires as Peter Pan. However, former Tony host Neil Patrick Harris quickly suggested she try something else.
“I just want to make sure everyone knows I’m thrilled to be here,” Pink said. She then launched into ‘Lady Marmalade’ with help from multiple Broadway performers, including Dylan Mulvaney and Shoshana Bean.
Lea Michele made a cameo to belt a customized lyric. June Squibb also got a moment in the spotlight. Furthermore, Megan Thee Stallion stepped in to rework Lil’ Kim’s rap from the original 2001 version.
Megan’s appearance was particularly notable. She was forced to exit her run in Moulin Rouge! The Musical early following a hospitalization in late April. Consequently, her final performance was originally scheduled for May 1, weeks before the Tonys.
Later in the evening, Megan returned to the stage to present an award. She handed out the trophy for Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Role in a Musical.
The original 00s incarnation of ‘Lady Marmalade’ recording by Pink, Lil’ Kim, Christina Aguilera, and Mya won a Grammy in 2002 for Best Pop Collaboration With Vocals.
