A legal battle involving Nicki Minaj is pulling back the curtain on the major spending planned around her blockbuster ‘Pink Friday 2’ era.

New evidence filed in the ongoing dispute between the rapper and 24/7 Productions reportedly includes an email from Minaj’s team objecting to the promotional budget allocated for the album’s launch.

And the figures being discussed are sizeable.

According to TMZ, a November 2023 email from a member of Minaj’s team branded Republic Records’ $250,000 allowance “extremely low,” adding that the promotional week would cost “at least double that.”

Hotels and transportation alone were said to threaten much of the budget, while proposed costs reportedly included $18,000 for six days of photography and videography and $4,200 for tailoring.

The emails have surfaced in 24/7 Productions’ lawsuit seeking more than $275,000 in allegedly unpaid expenses connected to Minaj’s 2023 Jingle Ball appearances and ‘Pink Friday 2’ promotion.

As TGJ previously reported, Minaj’s attorneys have pushed back against the company’s characterization of her spending, arguing that the expenses were approved and amounted to standard billing practices. The star has also sought to be removed from the case in her individual capacity.

Whatever the behind-the-scenes budget wrangling, the era delivered commercially. ‘Pink Friday 2’ opened at #1 with 228,000 units, while its accompanying world tour ultimately grossed $108.8 million.
