Sharing her candid thoughts with the outlet, the ‘Nasty‘ hitmaker shared:
“People have a very narrow understanding of what pop means nowadays, and it’s very clean, it’s very mainstream, it’s very white, and it’s very contrived.” She said “It’s nice to question that.”
Pointing to the many artists creating pop music outside of that traditional framework.
The conversation arrives as Tinashe prepares to drop her eighth studio album, ‘Popstar,’ on September 25. The project has already been teased by singles including ‘Crash Out,’ ‘Pillow Fight,’ ‘Melatonin,’ ‘Too Easy,’ and ‘I’d Rather Be Alone.’
With ‘Popstar’ exploring a range of sounds, Tinashe appears to be ready to push the boundaries o the label even further.
