Instead of trying to be relevant to folks who weren’t born until the late 90s and early 00s, MC should just make the music she wants and not worry about sales, because 10-15 years from now, she’ll STILL be around, no matter how many “flop” songs or albums she has between now and then, while a lot of these currently hot artists will have fallen off the radar by 2014 or 2015.

Tbh I think some of the obstacles people have with her are soooo frickin easy to fix I don’t know why she’s so reluctant to address them. Case in point, HIre a Goddamn Stylist! Lol Ok, rant over but like seriously…, artists like herself do not have to be shape shifters like Madonna/Rihanna re: their evolving look, however I do think a little less of the lycra and a bit more with the structured ‘age appropriate’ tailoring would go along way to working in her favour.., to borrow a phrase, the ‘eternally twelve’ thing was a ‘moment’ that was cute for 5min but now I need (as a devoted but fed up Lamb) to think a little outside the box and just try something new with her look. Sooo many people sleep on her because of all the nonsense.
Music aside The Emancipation was such a game changer for her because it ushered in a sophisticated maturity (while still being s***) that her audience had been craving for a long time. At to it the music on Mimi was also sophisticated and mature and the whole industry fell back in love with her. I think the same is totally possible if she is willing to evolve a little. Except for a couple of girls everybody on that video praised Mariah (as they should) but not only that, they said they were interested in what she … video about Janet Jackson and I´m not shading her but most people even the ones who respect her said she should stop releasing music (not my opinion, just saying what those people said), of course when they have made a video about lessers people were totally divided. I mean, Mariah is one of the big big ones, people deep inside even the haters know she´s capable of doing it huge way. Not that I didn´t know new music is coming, but this video got me all excited about it 🙂
Of course, apart from the music being good enough she would need crazy support from her label and media. But who doesn´t? If they did what they just did with Justin Timberlake (great album but not the best in the last 2 years or something to sell that much, so above everybody else, unfair) she would have no problems to have some big sales in the USA. I´m totally sure about that. But for that they should spend big money to do some great promo videos, radio deals and all the crazy Justin overload in all the shows in the USA. I mean, now that I know Jimmy Fallon is such a big Mariah Carey fan, the least they could do is a deal to promote Mariah the whole week (apart from other big shows). Mariah has more relevancy when it comes to interest in new music in the USA than even Madonna (talking about the big ones still satnding). They could do it. But it´s so probable this won´t happen. But oh well, at least she´ll serve good music and good vocals. The thing to remember with Mariah as well is that she is such a prolific songwriter and has such awareness of the music industry that she is very capable of adapting with the times and each project usually serves a specific purpose. Put it this way, I have come to believe that she puts out music for a number of reasons, not always to chart and not always because it means something to her…, sometimes to make money and chart high i.e. the more gimmicky music she sometimes does I believe is just to pay the bills rather than attain critical success. The back story attached to Butterfly and Mimi had Mariah in thematically creative places.., if she’s there again then we’ll get amazing music. If she is producer hoping for different sounds, then that’s her business head and while the music won’t be as deep it’ll serve it’s purpose in re-establishing her at radio. Personally, I want the former.
