Seventeen years have passed since Lauryn Hill rocked the music industry with her debut album, ‘The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.’ And like a fine wine, the impact of the set tastes better today than ever.
For, it has been announced that the groundbreaking project is the latest musical recording to be entered into the US Library of Congress.
The significance of this is explained below…
As Yahoo note, each year the ‘Congress committee selects 25 songs or albums to be inducted into their archives. This year’s tally (which includes efforts from the likes of Radiohead and Joan Baez) is led by Hill’s LP.
In order to be chosen, the “sound recording” — as it is deemed — must be “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant” and it must be at least ten years old.

Congratulations are more than due! The ‘Miseducation’ is a contemporary classic and it’s awesome to see it being recognised as such. Here’s hoping today’s talent can draw from the lyrical, social, and sonic ingredients that made the album such a moment in music. A “moment” that has now been rendered immortal.
One of the best records ever made. Not just in its genre but ever.
i STILL aint listened to the album.
Shame on me.
Y’all need to get cho lives thumbing me down cos I aint listened to the album.

Greatest R&B Album ever! And she didn’t have to show her tits, cuss, pat her p****, be drunk on a beach or steal….. *sips*
So what’s Cedric’s excuse since he’s done none of the above, but only tops the DOA (Dead on Arrival) charts? #SipOnTheseBabies
SCREEEAAAAMSSSSS!!!!!!!
Ciara has you so pressed. Her relevance and success speaks for itself so seethe on baby!
Drrrrrrrrrrrrrag that flop!!!
“Oh my my my. Have I waited for this day” *Whitney voice* for an article on this album. I LOVE this album! It’s such a classic. We had a string of amazing R&B/Hip-Hop albums come along around this 96-00 era (Secrets, The Velvet Rope, Butterfly, Share My World, Vodoo, The Bachelor, One in a Million, and etc.) The only thing I hated is that Lauryb never gave us a true follow up to this album and that her collaboration with Mariah never happened. I just know deep in my heart that would have been a classic.
Lauryn**
Child I never knew there was gonna be a collabo with our MC! Defo 1995-1999 was the creates years for RnB! We had My Love Is Your Love, The Writings On The Wall. I wish music was like it was than now. I think its prob one of the biggest losses of Rnb/hip hop that there was no follow up
I didn’t find out myself until like two months ago. I wish u didn’t know though, because my life hasn’t been the same since. 🙁 Lol.
Could you imagine the sound good wounder what year it wud of been?! All I know is I nerd Butterfly 2.0 right now. The ElusiveLamb have u got Damizza & MC song Mizza?!
Legendary album. Best Female Hip-Hop album ever, one of the best albums of any genre of all time! Lauryn is brilliant.
about time! this record is a classic and will most definitely be relevant in 2115
This was and still is a brilliant album, I just wish these new hip hop female acts can learn a few things from miss hill.
Lauryn Hill is the SHÎT. The only TRUE SANGER and TRUE RAPPER, ever..!!!! This album brings back so many memories! Lauryn, Missy and Lil’ Kim changed the face of female rap in the 90’s. Oh how I miss the creative days of musical originality ! Playing X-Factor now
One of the best album ever.
This is what timeless music looks like Rihanna.
She is ICONIC! #DEAL
The Legendary ms Lauren Hill.
One of the best female albums ever done. Radiohead’s “Ok Computer” is another masterpiece, glad that Joan Baez was honored as well. There are some female cult albums that should be there in the future like “Born to Die” and “Ultraviolence”.
I agreed with you up until you inserted the Llama…
ROTFLMAO best joke of the WEEK!
History Making ICON!
Lol @TheElusiveLamb
I remember that interview, Whitney went IN on Wendell ass.
Yes Whitney had me dying. The only time she didn’t shade during that entire interview was when she talked about Mariah and BK. The rest of it made my ribs hurt. I some times want Mariah to curse Wendy out, but I love the cold shoulder thing she’s doing to Wendy. The more she ignores Wendy, the more angry Wendy becomes. It’s the ultimate shade.
Slay, love the album.
I’m surprised that BUYoncé hasn’t bought a spot for a Destiny’s Child album or Dangerously In Love.
why would she have to buy it, though? The Writings On The Wall genuinely deserves to be there.
The miseducation of Lauryn Hill is one of those albums that is a true classic and has lasted the test of time. I really believe that one of the main reasons why there was never any true follow up is because Lauryn knew the expectations were extremely high and she did not want to disappoint the masses with a project that could not live up to hype musically or commercially.
Anyone listens to Tell Him? I always found that song very deep
