Call it a comeback? It certainly appears to be the case for Justin Bieber.

The 21-year-old pin-up, who has in recent years found himself out of favor with both the press and public, has seen his new single ‘What Do You Mean?’ blasts to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 — a feat that has seen him history in the process.

Details below…

The Poo Bear production has become Bieber’s first song to ever reach to pinnacle of the coveted tally.

What’s more, after selling a whopping 337,000 copies in its first week (and amassing 40 million VEVO views in seven days), the track earns the honor of becoming the 23rd song in the Hot 100’s 57-year history to debut at #1.

Prior to now, the former teen star’s highest entry on the chart was 2012’s ‘Boyfriend,’ which peaked at #2.

Bieber’s new album is due on November 13th.

*************

A solid song, but an even more solid PR plan (see: “I’ve changed” and crying at the VMA’s). Kudos.

    When will my fave tho?

White people support their own people that’s why Taylor Swift keeps wining blacks tear each other down in the gutter everyday then complain

Blacks tear each other down? Then explain the unexpected dominance from Fetty. How about Kendrick, Nicki, Rih, J. Cole, Abel, and Aubrey? Were black people not involved in their record sales?

      • Danny Bey September 8, 2015

Those artists are also backed by white consumers. Hip hop and rap is seen as the “cool” “urban” music in today’s world. White people buy what they think is “cool”. Hence why the Drakes, the Kendricks, and the J. Coles tend to sell more. If blacks really supported our own, then we’d still see the likes of Brandy, Jazmine Sullivan, Eryka Badu, Toni Braxton, Tyrese, Prince, etc. still selling big numbers bc they all still create exceptional music but no one buys their records like we used to.

      • Christian September 9, 2015

Taylor Swift is white mediocrity at its finest

      • JDE97 September 9, 2015

If that’s the case, how come Iggy, Ariana, Demi, Selena, Miley, Austin, and virtually no rock group can’t sell any albums? The white INDUSTRY properly arranges deck chairs so that who they want to win will. Bieber’s and Swift’s powerful teams saw to it that s*** like this would happen for them and it did.

  2. What now September 8, 2015

I tell u, there iz nothing like a few fake tears, a roast, a half assed Chris Brown ripped off performance, an “apology, showing your a** cheeks on IG, and some Payola won’t take care of. Slay Julie.

    • Chile, leave my weave at the door and don’t steal it like those broke ass barb stans September 8, 2015

Yes, I called it too! That stunt he pulled flying in the air was so unoriginal…and those vocals were not cute. He better stick to being the male robotney and show the girls how to lipsync for dear life!

What? Really? I thought the gp was really over him. That crying worked I see. Get ready for Selena to cling in 3, 2, 1…

  4. WRTW? September 8, 2015

Doesn’t deserve a number one, forgettable song, forgettable performance. It never cease to amaze me how politically the industry is

  5. Queen Molly September 8, 2015

Wow congratulations Justin… We gotta get Beys next single to debut at #1 too.

We all know thats not gonna happen becausw most of Bey’s fans are “black” but its wishful thinking and ultimately none of my business. Its good tea, though!

Well, he’s going platinum this year! Cant say the same for miley! Im sure the song will drop hard next week, but congrats to Beiber for securing his first #1. It’s amazing how pop fans just switch up on you. He better hold that spot as long as he can cause Taylor is coming yet again for round 5. Now, let’s see if radio will pick up one of Miley’s new songs.

  7. BeyRihLiyah September 8, 2015

Did he “put it downright like the way you wanted it”? I bet his little itty bitty piggy couldnt do any pleasurable damage. Am i right?

  15. Theman September 8, 2015

Justin also has a huge FANBASE. His songs fly to the top of itunes even if they aren’t singles. The song is good enough. It’s a different sound. So to debut at number one is huge for him. It’s not just radio. He has a huge following.

  16. Chaelin Lee (p.k.a – CL) is coming | 재 이현 김 September 8, 2015

People underestimate the power of a fanbase. As long as it’s solid, you will seel 200k first week. 🙂

Baeber has his beliebers, me, looks and talent.

    He’s far from done

  17. LB September 8, 2015

    When will Bey?

  18. OMG Logic!!! September 8, 2015

#Yawn The Goddess of Billboard remains unbothered with 3 #1 debuts. The peasants kneel before her.

  19. @JanetCIARA_ September 8, 2015

Havent heard the song, but congrats… i Guess…… Now its tougher for any stan to drag JB stans on social media

  20. BEY>RIH September 8, 2015

Beyonce, Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Adele, Britney Spears, Xtina, Jlo, Nicki, Miley, Ariana, Alicia Keys, Ashanti etc all have more #1 albums than “the greatest popstar of our generation”. I wonder why?

  21. Bravo!! September 9, 2015

I hope he humble his self this time around.. Don’t start acting a fool again, because it surely can be taking away Justin.

  22. Christina Aguilera September 9, 2015

    Congrats le biebs…

  23. Dev September 9, 2015

Justin is through with his “urban” stage and he is now going back for that white money. His VMA look screamed i’m back to my caucasian self, and to think last year they wanted to deport him back to Canada, but after a few spells on Ellen.

  24. XoMoDe September 9, 2015

This is unacceptable. Bieber should have played out 2 years ago and would have if the music business were set up the way it SHOULD BE: around radio and retail. No one is going to drive to the record store for a Bieber CD and no one is going to spend 30 minutes trying to call a radio station to request his song be played…but what the hell, they might just go ahead and click a button and casually listen to his crap online out of morbid curiosity, because it’s just THAT easy/…which is exactly what’s allowing clowns like him a continued presence. 10-20 years ago, Bieber’s career would be hasbeen/reality-show ready by now. All this iTunes/Spoitify/Social trending crap is keeping clowns like him around longer, which is exactly why none of it should be factored into chart tabulation.

    • Lmfao_Hoe September 9, 2015

I didnt detect any lies of what you just said. And honestly is very sad too that real artists including musicians don’t get no recognition but this clown can. We live in the sad times just about any damn body can be a singer (autotune/studio magic) where back in the day (60s,70s,80s,90s,00s) music you have to know how to f****** sing while having talent!

    • JDE97 September 9, 2015

ITA. In a better and stronger music industry, Bieber’s career would not have lasted longer than the Jesse McCartney/Jonas Brothers — who he replaced — did and only is because the industry has allowed itself to become so heavily net-influenced now. Thanks to the Internet his name and face remains in circulation at all times and we’re not allowed to “forget” or move on. So when he puts something out, it’s immediately saturated all over web and people go ahead and listen. And in the meantime thanks to VEVO/YouTube and other streaming outlets, “closet” fans can secretly indulge in cheesy acts like him and Taylor Swift without the effort of traveling to record stores, the embarrassment of having to take their albums up to the checkout counter, and don’t have to worry about friends laughing should they see those cds in their collections. The worse part in all this is that now radio is taking its cues from the Internet, so whatever is trending they feel an obligation to give airplay because they think it’s what people are interested in. So it’s like we’re stuck in this revolving door that won’t stop spinning.

      • Lmfao_Hoe September 9, 2015

My God you spoke so brilliantly on this. Nothing but absolute facts !

  25. Truth September 9, 2015

My fear is that Bieber is gonna wind becoming like another Britney. Someone who was playing out by age 20, saw a public backlash, was considered a joke by the GP and *should* have been over and done 5 years into their career, but just kept coming back again and again so many times and for so many years that after a while they’re eventually validated just because of how long they managed to stick around.

  26. O September 9, 2015

    THIS IS JUST WRONG

  27. chanel September 9, 2015

congrats justin you deserve it at least he can sing play instruments and dance ppl make mistakes anyway think music now days don’t have a lot of substance and younger generation is want fun happy dance music it seem not to be going anywhere I’m use to it now I do agree with some comment above every artist isn’t getting fair treatment we just have to deal with it everybody striving to stay relevant I mean who wouldn’t

  28. Eldela September 9, 2015

What a joke. Music is dead.

  29. Flash80 September 9, 2015

Never thought I’d see the day when music becomes irrelevant. I guess music died with MJ. Bieber can rack up 20 more #1 songs. At this point it doesn’t mean anything.

  30. JB September 9, 2015

Where is everyone who said his career is over? LMAO.
