New Song: Whitney Houston – ‘Like I Never Left (ft. Akon)’

Published: Saturday 26th Jul 2008 by Sam
Whitney Houston - 'Like I Never Left (ft. Akon)' With the release of Whitney Houston’s much anticipated ‘comeback’ album drawing ever-nearer (due November), a new Akon produced and featuring track, presumed to be from the LP has surfaced titled ‘Like I Never Left.
Though it’s great to finally hear a sample of the fruit of Whitney’s more recent studio time, I can’t say the airy mid-tempo track strikes me as chart-topping material. Still, a decent album cut. I’m hoping Whitney comes with her ‘A’ game as far as the first single and the album more generally. {Thanks Andy, Terrence, Bryan; you’re all stars!!}

Hit or Miss?

  6. Anonymous July 26, 2008

I am a Whitney supporter but this track is boring and middle of the road. For a comeback I need something a little harder than this.

  12. Anonymous July 27, 2008

This song is HOT! I’m glad Whitney is back to reclaim her thrown as The Voice. Whitney, remember that with Christ all things are possible…you’re living proof of that. I love you and can’t wait for you to come out full-force and show these singers/artists out today how it’s done!

The best is yet to come ya’ll!

The Song is Ok, one of those tunes you could sit and listen to,
“Akon and Whitney” never would of thought these two would go nice together on a song

I dont rate Whitney much as an artist, but i like this

  18. Anonymous July 27, 2008

Wow this is boring. Akon brings nothing to the track. This is absolutely not single material. She gotta come harder on a first single. I would be mad if this was even a deep album cut cause it sounds like a boring cut from Just Whitney

  19. Anonymous July 27, 2008

This is a great way to introduce Whitney to her existing and new fans. Once we see Whitney’s beautiful face on a video flashing her infectious smile, she will have us back in the palm of her hands. In addition, Whitney knows how to work a stage, so her live performance is going to be fun.

Kudos to Akon for writing a clever song. I love the dichotomy of it.

this is a geat song, good for you Whitney 2008/ 2009 is your year

  21. Anonymous July 27, 2008

Well it’s definatley not debut single material but its still a nice cut. And is it me or does Akon sound a lil better than he usually does.

No Problem Sam.. THis is a great reputable blog you have hear.. I wish there where more blogs like this on the net. It is soo easy to tear down and critisize urban culture but u do the oppisite you build it up and leave it to the public to make their choice. unlike the others u are one of a kind. so i find new information. I will deeff keep passing it on.

    much love from the states

  25. Anonymous July 27, 2008

Don’t listen to the haters! Don’t listen to people in desperate need of a Q-tip! This song is a huge HIT for any Whitney Houston lover. Welcome back with a bang, my girl! So glad to hear that beautiful voice hasn’t gone anywhere.

  26. Anonymous July 27, 2008

Definitely a miss. It should be on the Just Whitney albumn, not a comeback albumn.

  27. Anonymous July 27, 2008

she looks like Michelle williams ( on the picture )

  28. Miranda Priestly @ Runaway Mag July 27, 2008

I think this is a good track to add to the album, but not release material. As for Akon's presence, i'm interested in hearing the same track without his portion on it to see if it would sound better. No offense, i'm glad they're working together, but his production doesnt necessarily require his vocal presence each & every time.. I mean, sometimes, he does take away from a good track. thats all..

  29. Anonymous July 27, 2008

Cute song. Hopefully it’s a teaser. I want her comeback single to be something bangin! Uptempo. Something you’d hear at the club (Mary J Bliges’ “Enough Cryin” comes to mind).

  30. Anonymous July 28, 2008

I want Whitney to succeed and have a terrific come back, but this is a total miss. Sounds like the crap she has come out with for the last couple of albums. She needs to be doin the ballads and gettin healthy enough to record good vocals… arghghgh. I will keep my fingers crossed.

  31. Anonymous July 28, 2008

No no no! This is utterly and completely a miss! This isn’t comeback or even single-worthy material. Recording something so beneath her is just lazy.

  32. Anonymous July 28, 2008

Whitney is back! Love this song….definitely grew on me and its great to hear her sounding sood good again. Welcome back Nippy

  33. Anonymous July 28, 2008

I actually like this song.. its not a chart topper but its a nice song.

  34. Terrell July 28, 2008

No one said that this was a single that is being dropped. If you read it was leaked which means it could be or could not be on the album. If half of you would take the time to read and stop trying to judge and do more uplifting than we would be better of as a people. She’s been through alot and even though it is her own doing which one of us is without fault. “THINK ABOUT IT”

  35. Terrell July 28, 2008

Whitney …Congrats. Welcome Back…I know that this is only the beginning. Wish you the best. This is a “HIT”

  36. Anonymous July 28, 2008

I think the song is interesting…Her voice is definately not the same, its alot deeper but she has changed and I am willing to see the new Whitney and if this is evidence of where she is now I am kinda proud of her. This is a real ballroom/steppers song.

  37. Oscar July 30, 2008

The song is deleted, can someone re-upload it again?

    thanxs!

After listening a thousand times I am officially addicted. The song is indeed hot and I am a songwriter and singer as well. Yes whitneys tamber and unmatched clarity in her lower softer tones have changed. But she is still very advanced and has the tools necessary to knock pretty much anyone out of the box vocally. The problem lies in people who expect a 25 year old whitney voice and dont realize that after 20 years of cigarettes, and countless 2 hour minimum shows (upwards of 3-5 thousand). A voice that produces the kind of volume as Whitney’s will darken after sooooo many years. No one has cared to mention her sugery on vocal chord nodes years back. What confuses me most is that Whitney Houston is the only person obligated to sound exacly like herself 20 years ago.. Baby… Aretha doesnt, Barbara doesnt, Mariah doesnt (she cant even sing live anymore hardly) Dionne doesnt. Keep the Faith Whitney God’s Gift can never be taken away from you by mere mortals.

  39. Anonymous July 31, 2008

this song is garbage. sorry, but true.

  40. Anonymous August 1, 2008

whitney still sounds good to be 44 years old, unlike mariah who can’t sing live if her life depended on it. This song is not made to be song like a ballad. It has a midtempo beat and is made to just listen too. “Your girl is coming home!!”

  41. Anonymous August 1, 2008

Why is everyone saying this song is boring? People please realize that whitney is not 20 and do not compare her to young artists such as beyonce and ciara who make upbeat songs for dancing. Whitney houston is what you call a real singer. Her voice has changed due to age. If you look at her first performance in the 80’s she has a very high pitched voice. Well in the 90’s her voice became mezzo soprano. Now her voice is even lower because she is older. Mariah doesn’t even sing like she use to. Everybody please support whitney and buy her album so she can know we still love her!!

  42. Anonymous August 9, 2008

it can be a hit but she should stick to her own sound with songs like i’ll always love you and when you believe
it’ll be great to see her and mariah carey do another duet

  43. Anonymous August 12, 2008

I am a huge Whitney fan a feel she is the greatest singer around. That being said, this is not a record that demonstrate her ability as a recording artist. It's a tough call for the other EP and the A&R folks to be honest with this artist about the delivery on the record. Whitney has developed some licks that she is comfortable with that work well live, but don't hold the ear on a record (which is played over and over and over again with any luck). Whose gonna tell Whitney Houston how to sing? Nobody want to say that to her, but everyone know what that woman is capable of – still. I've heard some of her recent live performances and a a pure singer, whether the voice is in fine form or not, no one can touch her. Even Mariah would say that. The real issue here is that she is an artist that delivers when challenged.
Akon's production and this song are off the mark and the challenge for Sony/BMG/Arista remains what what it always is for every Whitney album – the material. When that lady is bored it shows and you can hear it in this recording. Whitney has to work and be challenged otherwise the project will be a disaster. She has everything it takes to be a top selling recording artist again, but I wonder if that's what she want. A the greatest singer has to have the greatest material.

  44. Anonymous August 26, 2008

Whitney has become a joke. She sounds horrible even with all the help the the album will bomb and she’ll be back to crack as whack as she says it is. Sad song Sad girl. A waste is of what was once and true BLESSING.

LOVE U WHIT!!!!!!!!!! Ur album is gonna be the s***!!!!!!!! Oh, n btw y’all, this is an unfinishexd track, I’m sure they’re gonna re-record and mix it more. I heard that Akon’s part was apart of the demo track for Whitney and that someone else put the song together. So chill, Either way ir sounds great to me.
