‘Moonlight’ has emerged as one the biggest success stories in recent years.
A testament to the power of stellar storytelling, the independent flick – which explores Black homosexuality – has enjoyed a slow and steady ascend.
Last month saw its rise culminate in a Golden Globe win and tonight it’s in contention for a number of awards at the 2017 Oscars.
This week, That Grape Juice caught up one of ‘Moonlight’s lead actors Trevante Rhodes at the 2017 American Black Film Festival Honors to discuss the film’s resonating impact.
Rising star Rhodes also opened up about his exciting role in rebooted blockbuster ‘The Predator.’

I’m so proud of Moonlight & everything it has accomplished in such a short time. This film is so important for all America including the black community to see the life & struggles of a lot of Black Q**** people And I wish them all the best at tonight’s Oscars. #BestPicture P.s Trevante is so s***!!! Lol
Moonlight was a great coming of age story focusing on black youth discovering manhood for ALL that might mean — toughness, dominance, sexuality, honor. We saw a real bond, both sexual and emotional, between Kevin and Black that held true for more than a decade after their characters parted in the film, but it was clearly true that some of the other boys in the film were struggling with issues concerning sexuality too.
Cool
