Cardi B’s ‘Bodak Yellow’ Scorches Taylor Swift On Songs Revenue Chart

Published: Monday 9th Oct 2017 by David

One of the biggest surprises of the summer?

The ease with which Hip-Hop newcomer Cardi B pulled the chart rug from beneath Taylor Swift‘s ‘Look What You Made Me Do.’

Fans of the ladies will know that Swift’s cut reigned supreme atop the Billboard Hot 100 before Cardi, propelled and powered by Hip-Hop’s star makers, rocked her world by kicking her from the top to claim the spot for her baby ‘Bodak.’

This week, it seems Cardi is far from finished.

Details below…

Despite selling more units than ‘Bodak’, ‘Look’ finds itself shaken, stirred, scorched and slain by the cut because ‘Bodak’ is generating more money via streams.

Here’s how.

In the last week Swift’s jam earned $8,732 more than Cardi’s but fell short on the chart above because Cardi pocketed more than she did on streaming platforms like Tidal, Apple Music and Spotify.

Sans streams, the roles would be reversed.

With this in mind, we ask…

Does the current chart-system work against pure-sale driven stars?

And people say there isn’t money in music anymore! It’s about the same as always but without the chargebacks.

And to answer the question posed at the end of this article, streaming works both for and against sales driven artists, so it balances out. 150 streams equals 1 sale. Not every person who downloads a single listens to it 150 times, and certainly not in the same week.

It’s telling when an artist sells strictly on the power of their fan base, like Shania Twain did with her recent #1. If legacy albums/singles can generate money through streaming, why can’t new product from legacy artists. The answer is that selling on the strength of fans does not mean people are liking and sharing the album.

So sick of these nobody’s making these overnight come ups! Nowadays it seems that if you’re Rachet or do something Rachet you get a deal on the spot! Cardi B as we all know was a stripper and capitalized off of LHHNY! If this trick wasn’t on LHHNY NOBODY besides her “Johns” and “Tricks” would only know her. The only reason why this song keep climbing the charts is because it’s a “POPULAR” song right now, but the lyrics is not all of that to skyrocket no. 1. Ohh well it’s my opinion and I’m sticking to it LOL!

No such thing as an “overnight comeup”. Cardi made two mixtapes, released many singles and videos before this one. With every single an artists has the chance to gain fans who will check for future releases. You are acting like she popped up out of nowhere. People got to see her evolve from an unattractive chick with messed up teeth to a woman releasing mixtapes to getting a number 1 single. Perhaps she is not your cup of tea (yet) but never hold so tight to an opinion as if opinions cannot change. Did she offend you somehow with her homophobic lyrics on other songs?

i mean, yea cardi is higher than taylor, but “scorching” seems like an exaggeration.

post malone’s stream # is much higher than both of them combined, so…

  6. Truth be told October 9, 2017

At this point I feel like Cardi is riding the wave of this single too much and if she doesn’t find another one then she will be exactly what people claim she is… A one hit wonder. Just ask Remy about how the internet will give u a false sense of popularity but when that album or next song comes out, they’ll forget u even exist.

Any real sale or album should count more than streaming. They give streaming way too much credit..
