Stefflon Don is staging a global takeover!
For much of 2017, the British-Jamaican star has been drumming up international buzz thanks to her fierce, flavoursome flow – which she uses to both rap and sing.
Mixtape ‘Real Ting,’ home to street cuts such as ’16 Shots,’ signalled that she was not here to play; while mainstream debut ‘Hurtin’ Me’ cemented that as fact.
The club jam, which features French Montana, became a fixture on the airwaves and peaked at #7.
And Steff says she’s just beginning.
That Grape Juice’s Ques Williams caught up with her during her recent promo trip to Atlanta.
Head below, where the rising star shares her Stateside plans and reveals she has a collaboration with Future on the way!
That Grape Juice: Well first of all, congratulations on the success of your single ‘Hurtin’ Me.’
Stefflon Don: Thank you so much!
That Grape Juice: It’s really great to see you here making moves in the States. How are you finding Atlanta?
Stefflon Don: I’ve only been here for one day, but I’ve [already] been everywhere, I’ve been promoting the single with French Montana. It’s been great, radio’s sick out here, I like it.
That Grape Juice: Nice. So, there’s a lot of buzz about your upcoming album (due in 2018). Could you give us any details about the LP?
Stefflon Don: I’m gonna have some mad tunes. Listen, I’m out here trying to do some bangers for y’all, so you don’t have to worry, I’m gonna come with the bangers. I’m gonna [make you] turn up the radio!
That Grape Juice: So we’re going to see you a lot more stateside?
Stefflon Don: Yeah, you will see me a lot more for sure. UK based, but I still have to be (and will be) here a bit more than I am usually. I love the US.
That Grape Juice: Are there people out here you see yourself collaborating with?
Stefflon Don: [Smiles] I’ve already got something with Future.
That Grape Juice: Oh.
Stefflon Don: Call that an exclusive Mr Grape Juice, because you’re so nice.
That Grape Juice: Thank you. That’s an amazing look!
Stefflon Don: You got the exclusive ting!
That Grape Juice: What have you got cooking for the next single?
Stefflon Don: Next single is actually for these dancers. You know them type of dancers? Something like that [laughs].
That Grape Juice: Well come through!
Stefflon Don: It’s lit, it’s lit. It’s like a turn up ting. And I’m rapping, because I was singing on my last ting, so I’m gonna hit them with the bars this time. They’re gonna love it.
That Grape Juice: Who’s your favourite rapper? In the States?
Stefflon Don: Dead or alive? Nah, I’m joking. Who’s lit right now? I like Kendrick, I think he’s sick, I like King Los as well. Who else, who else is a sick rapper? I love Cardi B. Respect to Nicki too.
That Grape Juice: It was great speaking with you.
Stefflon Don: You too!
I love her
She’s amazing & better than a lot of the so called rap artist out here NOW!! ?❤️
Never heard about her. She looks like Nicki, Beyoncé and Cardi… so NOT original. I took a listen at these songs, I’ll just pass on it. Next
