Mariah Carey has long called legend Patti LaBelle her godmother. And it’s more than a flowery title; it’s a role Ms. Patti takes super seriously.

During a visit to Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live to promote her infamous pies and new cooking show, the grandam diva was questioned about advice she’d give Mimi heading into 2018 and her response was rather telling.

Per the clip below, LaBelle salutes Carey for being a brilliant woman but she cautioned that the singer was (until recently) surrounded by “bad people.”

It’s natural to assume to Patti was referring to the recently ousted regime in “Mariah Land” (see: former manager Stella Bulochnikov).

In any case, it’s warming to know ol’ Mimi still has folk who will keep it real. Because for far too long she’s seemingly been surrounded by “yes” guys and gals who have had her out here looking + acting the fool. Consequently, her brand has suffered. And given who put said people in their positions, she has to assume a lot of the blame herself.

That said…

With a New Year (and new team) comes new chances to right wrongs. So here’s hoping she grabs 2018 by the you-know-what and makes it work for her in a major way.
