The Weeknd Embroiled In Legal Drama Over Trademark To Name

Published: Sunday 1st Apr 2018 by Sam

The Weeknd may have cause to celebrate after surprise releasing new EP ‘My Dear Melancholy,’ but he’s conversely caught up in a court case. And it all surrounds the trademark of a name.

Full story below…

TMZ reports that the singer, real name Abel Tesfaye, has instructed his lawyers to file suit against Eymun Talasazan who is attempting to trademark the term ‘Starboy.’ Both of which were used by The Weeknd for his 2016 single and like-titled album.

Per their submission, the feeling is that Eymun is deliberately looking to capitalize on the Canadian crooner’s established success with the name. For, he filed for use of it on TV projects after 2016.

What’s more, just 11 days after The Weeknd and Marvel announced a ‘Star Boy’ comic book series (dropping June 13th), Eymun filed another ‘Starboy’ trademark…for comic books.

It’s not the first time Eymun has played on this terrain; for he filed well-timed trademarks for ‘Runnin’ Through the 6′ and ‘Straight Outta Bombton’ to benefit from the momentum of both Drake and the N.W.A.

Surprised Wizzkid hasn’t sued considering he’s been using the term starboy for years & his label is called Starboy as well.
