Fans of Netflix’s Marvel Comics series, ‘Luke Cage’ (starring Mike Colter, Alfre Woodard, Mahershala Ali), had to wait over a year for the popular show to return for a season 2.
Now, it seems they’ll be waiting indefinitely for its season 3 as reports have surfaced it has been canceled.
Netflix has canceled its second show from Marvel in as many weeks: Luke Cage is done after two seasons.
The cancellation comes seven days after the streaming service pulled the plug on Iron Fist, also after two seasons. Both shows were part of the original quintet of Marvel shows Netflix ordered in 2013. The first of the five to premiere, Daredevil, launched its third season on Friday.
A statement from execs of Marvel and Netflix reads:
“Unfortunately, Marvel’s Luke Cage will not return for a third season,” Netflix and Marvel said in a joint statement. “Everyone at Marvel Television and Netflix is grateful to the dedicated showrunner, writers, cast and crew who brought Harlem’s Hero to life for the past two seasons, and to all the fans who have supported the series.”

While it is believed viewership was strong (though there is no way to prove that as Netflix does not release ratings info), sources claim the cancellation is due to creative differences.
Of course it was due to creative differences. Once Disney launch their streaming service next year, I expect this to make their return there. Why would they have their own properties exclusively on a different competing streaming platform.
THIS!!!!!!!
These type of shows are tough. It belongs on HBO since HBO has longer money and makes money off of resale of their shows. Netflix is cheap with production costs and shows like this are on thin ice from the very beginning even if they pick them up.
Welp….THAT sucks as I really enjoyed Alfre Woodard as a villain.
U clearly didnt watch.
She got killed off.
Perfect picture of him… chiiiiile! ?
Per usual, any black show of substance gets the axe. The Get Down and now Luke Cage…apparently it is not based on viewership, but Netflix’s choice of what they put money into. It might be a fine time for people of color to decide if Netflix is worth investing a monthly subscription in…
hardly any of us are really investing in Netflix…we all sharing accounts with like 3 other people lol
