After a rollercoaster 2018, Ariana Grande looks set to end the year on a sweet note. For, the songbird has officially been named Billboard’s Woman Of The Year.
Head below for details…
The 25-year-old follows in the footsteps of previous honorees including Lady Gaga, Madonna, and Taylor Swift.
She’ll be handed the award on December 6th at the 13th annual Women in Music gala in New York City.
Ross Scarano, Billboard’s VP of content, explained why she was picked in a statement:
“Ariana Grande is a star on her own terms, never bending to any particular musical trend or path in the industry. Certain in her convictions, she consistently stands up for herself and her decisions in a world that often isn’t hospitable to that sort of strength in young women. She’s got guts, she’s making some of the best music of her career, and she’s absolutely deserving of Woman of the Year.”
It’s much-needed high for Grande, who has been thrust into headlines for many a heart-wrenching reason in recent times.
Last year May saw a fatal terrorist attack take place at the Manchester stop of her ‘Dangerous Woman Tour.’ She would go on to stage a globally broadcast ‘One Love’ fundraiser in the British city in honor of the lives lost. $23 million was raised.
While this September brought with it the tragic death of ex Mac Miller, who she broke up with just months before.
A new relationship with comedian Pete Davidson (who she quickly became engaged to) ended last month.
Grande’s music, however, has fared much more successfully.
‘Sweetener,’ her fourth studio album, topped the charts upon its release in August and has spawned huge hits ‘No Tears Left To Cry’ and ‘God Is A Woman.’ Its latest single ‘Breathin’ is building into another smash, while new song ‘Thank U, Next’ is also proving a winner commercially. A world tour has been set for 2019.
Billboard’s Women In Music gala will air live on Twitter on December 6th.
Congrats to Miss Grande!
Has she even made any major moves on billboard this year? This is about as deserving as Caitlyn Jenner (TROLLmine Rasputia’s aunt) getting “Woman if the year award” from the ESPY’s in 2015.
Oh please, she won this because of what has happen to her in personal life not her career #sympathyaward
She does NOT deserve it. What has her nasty snobby rude to fans ass Done to derserve it.
lol so she got clout coins from mac’s death?
Who?!!??♂️
Girl what? So many other deserving choices…..anyway https://youtu.be/f9p5cmh-pJY
cute girl. I just don’t use her like that tho
Sounds about WHITE
She’s not white lool at least I always saw her as a Latino woman
She is white. And Latino is not a race. You can be white and Latino at the same time.
Not sure how when her music didn’t do anything this year but ok.
I am confusion. Billboard’s Woman of the year for what??? What did she do??? Her music did not make even the slightest dent on the industry and she absolutely bends to musical trends, she’s not an artist??? I don’t like Cardi but she would’ve been a better fit for this.
For the… interesting people who love to comment first with Hate… Ariana’s album went number 1 and is certified platinum with 2 top 5 hits. Her performances were all hits (per usual), and yes her personal life was on blast but she pushed through and kept it pushing. Check facts before y’all hate please Lordt ?
Lol moderate success isn’t “billboard woman of the year” worthy. I didn’t say she was a flop she just didn’t do anything that great and her album is long gone already and forgotten with absolutely no impact.
Sweetener has not been certified platinum. It hasn’t been certified at all yet in the USA. This award is a complete joke and it is ridiculous to put her in the same sentence as Madonna, let alone Lady Gaga and Taylor Swift that have achieved sales Ariana’s team would kill for
Not sure why when she got more attention and press from Pete and Mac than her album. But go awf sis….
How Sway? ?
@Fancy – Exactly!
I love her shes my favorite non black artist lol and one of my favorite artists overall. I have to be honest and agree with some of the other comments though. I think her previous 2 eras where more deserving of an honor like this with all of the top 10s she had with them. Anyway I’m still happy for queen Grande!
LOL It´s so easy now.
Thank God it wasn’t Camilla or Taylor #thankYouNext
